I'm a student at Foothill College working on my TAG form for UC San Diego. I'm not sure I'll be able to get an appointment with a counselor before the deadline (hence the questions here), but I am sure I meet the minimum requirements (3.98 GPA, 92 transferable quarter units completed at 2-year-college level only, IGETC completed).

But I was wondering about the future terms section. I plan to be full-time (12+ units) for my remaining three quarters, but I've overheard one student saying that the minimum is 15 units per quarter regardless of the number of units already completed. Is this true?

Also, how thoroughly do I need to fill out that section/how detrimental is it if I don't end up taking every 'planned' course? I think I'll be able to complete the lower division prep requirements, but the future course schedules haven't been released yet, so conflicts could always arise.

I'm probably worrying too much, but it seems better to be safe than sorry.

It could be a problem if you end up not taking or not completing a course you list as planned, and don’t update them on once you decide not to take it (i.e., in January).

I haven’t heard anything from UCSD on needing to take a certain number of units each semester for TAG eligibility.

As far as I’m aware only UCD and UCSC require you to be full time, but it varies - at my college they suggest you stay full time if you TAG with any UC. shrug

I called UCSD admissions about this because I thought I was going to hit the 135 quarter unit limit. They told me they didn’t care what I took during the year regarding minimum units per quarter, but I imagine it would have to still be planned out on the TAG website.

@nick_scheu: Okay, thanks. That makes sense. The possibility of notifying them of changes after TAG forms and applications were in had completely slipped my mind for some reason.

@kmazza: I’m a cognitive science major.

@SDHopeful: Thanks. It’s reassuring to hear that from someone who’s talked to them directly. It seems like the kind of requirement that would be stated on the TAG information page itself if it existed, actually, since they’re quite clear about things like IGETC certification being required. I’ll call next week to double check, just in case.

And… yeah, I was sort of wondering whether I really needed TAG with a 3.98. I’ll probably do it anyway, since I have the form almost entirely filled out. I just won’t worry too much about getting things wrong.
