MInnesota/Guthrie

Yes, thanks, I saw the BU article. Wish I had seen it before I showed the financial aid guy NYU’s grant offer and he basically laughed at me.

Well, whether or not our friend Yasha got a full ride, hopefully he and his parents examined NYU’s offer very carefully. Presumably they were happy with it. He turned down BoCo for Tisch/Adler at least partly because of the aid.

Well, people say that NYU is not generous with aid, but BoCo is reputedly even worse. BoCo is the only school that offered my kid zilch ($0) in any kind of scholarships or grants, even though our EFC proved we needed it and the BoCo auditors told her right there at her audition that she would “get good news from us in March.” Well, it was a “good news/bad news” scenario. The good news? Yes, she did get in. The bad, the “financial aid” there was ALL loans. LOL!

I got my fin aid pakcage today, 20k/year from fordham which was nice. But i will need to garnish up 10 k more if i plan on going. But there was a probelm w/ my CSS profile so they just sent out my fin aid w/o looking at the profile so hopefully that will turn up more funds not that the CSS was taken care of. im going to appeal as well and see if the theatre department has scholarships. I am also still waiting on outside scholarships too, so we will see, wish me luck!

but i am still sort of stuck on minnesota/guthrie… ughh but nyc is so alluring! any thoughts on this would be GREATLY appreciated.

The reason Boco offers little or no money is because it has little or no endowment. It resides in one of the most expensive cities in the US and invests heavily in their teachers or professors. As a result, they need to spend whatever money they have carefully. Financially speaking they are more like the Minnesota Twins (no slight to any Twins fans) than the NY Yankees.

Guys have a distinct advantage over gals when it comes to scholarships. For a MT male student they really want, they have gone as far as $25K. For a MT girl they will go as high as $12,500K.

Typical scholarships run around 5K.

Well, I am just glad that BoCo, wonderful though it is, was not in my D’s top four favorites, as it would have been almost impossible to send her there in any case without more than the Stafford loans they offered. :)
