Minnesota or Indiana?

I got in both, and they re my top 2... I'm gonna go visit them over spring break, but anyone have anything they d like to compare about the schools? I got into Carlson, and Kelley School of business, so if you could compare those 2, lemme hear it.

Congrats. Both are fine schools. If I recall correctly, UofM is rated somewhat ahead of Indiana overall BUT the the Indiana business program is consistently rated among the top 20 whereas Carlson is rated much lower. Indiana also has top rated Marketing, Finance, Accounting, MIS programs. I know ranking is not everything but obviously Indiana has a great undergrad business program arguably superior to Carlson’s. I agree you should go visit both the schools and see which one feels right. I really liked Carlson when I visited as a Junior and did not apply at Madison, Michigan or Indiana.

For Business, in most rankings Kelley is ranked ahead of Carlson. Sometimes marginally (5-10 spots), sometimes 30 (Businessweek I believe). Kelley is more nationally recognized (also see UW vs. UMN thread) where as Carlson is more regionally known, but can still get you where you want to go. I am a current Carlson student and the reasons I would take Carlson over Kelley would regard the campus, city, and overall appeal of the university to me. I would much rather spend 4 years in a 3.5 million metro area as opposed to Bloomington, Indiana. I have never been to IU, so I can’t comment.

To sum it up, visit both schools and decide which one you’re more comfortable at. Both are great business programs (Kelley having the national edge), but each can get you wherever you want to go. Just take note that each campus/location is totally different and that you’ll be spending 4-years there. Each will get you a great job, just go where you think you’ll be happier.
