Minnesota Twin Cities vs. Augustana College

Minnesota is a huge school while Augustana is a small liberal arts school. I plan on majoring in Psych and Mathematics. What's really important to me is the opportunity for research, and at a large school like Minnesota I'm worried I'll have a hard time talking and getting to know my professors. The social component is also important. I'd rather go to a larger school near a big city rather than a smaller school in the middle of nowhere. Any suggestions?

Are you talking about Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, or Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois?

UMN has outstanding psych and math departments, and it’s not near a big city, it’s in one. But it is big–second-biggest in the Big Ten, after Ohio State. Most students who go there manage to find their niche, however, and I’ve known many who have had excellent undergrad research opportunities.

Rock island, sorry for not specifying. How can I have leg up when it comes to getting research opportunities with professors?

Augustana seems to have a very limited set of math courses compared to UMN-TC:

Junior and senior level math courses tend to be small faculty-led courses at even the biggest research universities.

While some smaller schools may be better for some students, Augustana does not appear to be the best one for a math major.

What do you want to do with math/psych? Teach? work in a business?
Can you be a part of a living-learning community to make the university smaller, or part of a “freshman cohort” (also called FIG)?
(What are your stats - GPA, ACT?)
