i can't find anything online about minors in stern. i know it's 4 classes for a major in stern, and i've heard it's 2 classes for a minor.

which 2 classes would this be? both core classes or a core and an elective?

and also, how useful are minors? would it be "better" to pursue a minor or just take a bunch of random classes instead?

thanks.

Errr...I think you have things wrong. In order to major in something at Stern, you actually have to apply and be accepted to the Stern School. In this case, you'd be taking WAY more than just 4 Stern classes for your major. If you're in any other school but Stern (CAS, Tisch, Steinhardt, Gallatin, Nursing, Social Work) you can minor in business through Stern, but that minor is 4 classes. Hope that helps.

And, I think you can take no more than 4 classes in Stern as a non-Stern student.

It takes 4 classes to major in an area at Stern, but you have to complete the 10+ core courses first. But yes, after the core is done then it's easy to tack on majors and minors.

you CANNOT minor in Stern

I'm assuming you're in Stern.

Stern doesn't offer any minors. You could do an Entertainment, Media, and Technology specialization (at least 3 classes) or minor in something else at a different school: Academic Advising

Minors in another school will probably take you way more than 2 extra classes, though. Doing another major within Stern is usually 3-4 classes (12 credits), though sometimes you can double count classes for 2 different majors.

If you're interested in a particular subject, by all means, get a minor. It's all official, so it's probably nicer to have documentation that you like, say, art history enough to do a whole mini curriculum in it. If you don't, might as well take a bunch of random classes until you hit on something you do like.

quag_mire - Wow really? Heh, I go there currently and was completely unaware of that. Wasn't planning on minoring in Stern anyway.
