I'm thinking about genetics, what is a minor that complements it well? I was thinking computer science, because I want to go into bioinformatics. Then what courses should I take? Like classes on algorithms, databases, etc?

I’m not far enough in my CS degree to be an expert, but I’d think that classes in probability, algorithms, and statistics would be helpful.

CS and statistics courses. Actually, CS and/or statistics as the major with biology courses as the supplement may be a more worthwhile combination, due to better major-specific opportunities in CS and/or statistics (compared to biology) as backup options to bioinformatics.

What content should the CS and stats content cover?

I thought about that, but I do think that I enjoy bio a lot more that cs and stats. I’m still not positive about bioinformatics, but it seems like a good possible field to look into. Interest wise, I’d rather have bio as a backup than cs/stats. Is that stupid thinking?

Note that biology is an extremely popular major, so the masses of new biology graduates every year floods the job market for biology-specific jobs.

As a supporting subject, you can take the introductory CS course sequence for CS majors. If you major in CS, then you can take additional CS courses for the major.

You likely have several choices of introductory statistics courses, depending on the math background needed (e.g. high school algebra only, minimal calculus, good knowledge of calculus, multivariable calculus and linear algebra, more advanced math). Choose the courses that match the highest level of math that you are comfortable with. If you major in statistics, choose according to the major requirements.

You do bring up a good point there. I looked more into CS major and Stats major. If I did one, it would probably be stats. I am taking an applied stats course for biological majors this coming quarter, it should be some help.

So perhaps something along the lines of Stats major with Bio minor?
