Well I know everyone here already knows about their major (I'm assuming) but is anyone wanting to have a minor for their choice of university or even considering it? I know it's not as important as the major but could help or be something your interested in.

If I go to Davis I will minor in Studio Art so that I could learn painting and more photography...and video since I know that will be an extra plus when I go out and get a job. Either studio art or Japanese because I am interested in the culture and I wanna go to Japan someday...I took Japanese 1 and 2 in high school but I forgot most of it =[

but if I go to Sac State I will minor in Marketing so that I can understand the business aspect of being a graphic designer, not just the art part.

so I'm interested in seeing what everyone is minoring in and why...

I would really like to minor in Japanese too, hanucol. I finished through intermediate level at my CCC. I’m going to Japan for a few weeks this summer so I guess that will be the deciding factor!

Is there an option to declare a minor on your college application? or do you declare it once you get in to the university? Does it take extra time to graduate (since it would be more units on top of your upper division major reqs?

I think once you get accept then you declare the minor. And for the extra time it takes to graduate, I think it depends on your major…if someone has A LOT of units in their major then the minor isn’t usually recommended. But I calculated the classes I would take in both schools, how long it would take to graduate I was able to throw in the minor…

oh and you are so lucky to go to Japan, I have always wanted to go there! Are you just visiting or are you studying abroad?

You don’t declare a minor on your application, but for all the schools except for Berkeley you declare an alternate major. If you have TAP for UCLA, for example, they will consider you for your alternate major if you’re not competitive enough for your primary one.

You declare a minor once you begin at the university. I’m considering minoring in Philosophy. I’m a Psych major, so phil could really supplement my logic. I’ve come to know over the last couple of years that psych and phil will often complement each other, especially when writing essays.
