Minoring at Cornell

I want to study something in the life sciences at CALS but I want to do a compsci minor.. Is that possible?

it is possible to minor across colleges as long as the minor/concentration you want is offered (aka you can do it if the comp sci department offers comp sci as a minor).

yes...it is possible but it's not recognized as official...

what you can do is get the department chair of the department that hosts the minor to write you a letter saying you completed all the requirements for the particular minor...

^^The minor shows up on your final transcript...I would know b/c I minored in nutrition and it's designated on my final transcript...right my below my degree earned and major.

but that was because you minored in something available in your college...

what i'm talking about is when lets say a CALS major minors in Spanish (CAS)...

That would show up on your transcript as well.

Where did you hear that? I was under the impression that all minors show up on the final transcript.

Edit: thanks CayugaRed

ok thanks all for your help!

Wait, so say I'm an HBHS major but want to do a Spanish minor in CAS. Is that possible or would I have to do a "concentration" unofficially?
It would be awesome, if I were accepted, to do a Spanish minor.

Oh, HBHS is in HumEc

according to my friends in HumEc, you're not allowed to minor. (i have a friend who's a human development major and can't minor in psychology.)

Ugh, that sucks. But can you do a concentration then? And can you minor within HumEc?

how hard is it to get a minor in say, economics, if you major in engineering? What are the general requirements (i.e. number or courses) to get a minor?

yeah i'm wondering that as well. is an engineering major but a spanish minor possible?

It hasn't yet been asked, but I just talked to the CALS office, so if anyone was wondering, if you are in CALS, and want to minor in AEM, there's no application to fill out. Just fill out a minor form, take the classes, and you'll graduate with a minor in whatever AEM concentration you choose.

can you do that if you're in engineering? Does it entail an application of if I get in to cornell engineering can I bank on it that I could minor in AEM?

There is a minor called: Business for Engineering Students
specifically sponsored by AEM for engineers.

Cornell Engineering : Business for Engineering students

there is also an Engineering Management minor which is more rigorous of a minor than the AEM one.

Cornell Engineering : Engineering Management

for those of you wanting to minor in non-official or non-sponsored programs...check out what you major/college's website says about minors...

i know cornell recently switched concentrations to minors...making it more confusing but a year ago i was told that since I was an ILR student I couldnt do an offical Spanish "minor" but could still do the coursework and be able to put it on my resume...though I was told it would not show up on my transcript b/c I was in the ILR school and not the CAS...
