Minorities at Northeastern

I know someone mentioned this in another thread about who its mostly white up there. Normally I don't care about that sort of thing even though I am classified as a 'minority" since I am a black woman, but I am a little concerned because I looked at a brochure for the MS in Accounting and MBA dual program and it had pics of all of its students admitted last summer (about 40 or so) and NONE of them were black. the only reason that bothers me is because I won't have anyone up there to relate to in terms of certain aspects of culture.

I know that most of you are undergrads, but is it virtualy 100 percent white at Northeastern?

How are race relations in Boston? I have heard from several differnet peoople who have lived up there who hated it because they said it was racist. I tend to think that their claims may be a bit exaggerated but then again, they may not. What has been your experience?

I mean, just looking at the given stats its under 70% white, which when you think of it is less then the country avg and any college you go to will have a white majority, but i know NEU is in no 100% white and there are the minority offices and all that good stuff so i'd say no worries.

I'd say Boston has changed (improved) quite a bit since the busing and race controversies of the 1970s. The Northeastern Univ area is quite diverse. There are black owned businesses (restaurants) directly adjacent to the campus. A friendly Asian-American student helped me find my way to the Basketball arena during one visit to Northeastern. Some of the immediate neighborhood is undergoing a flurry of economic development.

When I visited their campus, I did notice that the majority was white. But I also saw minorities walking around, some black people, indian people, asian people, etc. When I was on their T train, I noticed it was very diverse, but then when I got off at Quincy Market, it was mostly white. Maybe cause it's a touristy place? Good luck with your decision.

oh dont worry, im a minority too. Mexican girl (international student).
we should be just fine, i wouldnt worry

this is a link of a special program for minorities
