hi everyone, I am considered african and not african american apparently. So if i tick the other box and write african, will i still get urm status which will help with admission?

What do you mean you are "apparently considered" African? If you are a US citizen, then you are African American. I don't know the African population in Virginia off the top of my head, but I can guess that African is an underepresented minority.

I get the feeling he/she is a white African. Is this correct?

[rant]
If its true, you'll be another to have found a flaw in a broken system. I've seen other African Americans try apply for scholarships intended for African Americans but get denied a right to apply. A perfect example of how polical correctness defies common sense. Not all Africans are black, but somehow in America, in order to be open minded and pc, we have to wrongly assume that all African Americans are black... how paradoxical.

If your not a white AA, then my rant doesn't really apply to you, but its still something for everyone to think about.
[/rant]

Either way I think if you check other and then African you will get URM status, as long as you don't also check white, but I don't think anyone on here really has any valid idea. I would make a call or email to admissions.
