I just got a letter from the Black student association at Duke. The letter has a section for FAQS. One of the questions asked was "does this mean that I am getting admitted". The answer what that the chances of admission are excellent. This Amazed me and i wanted to know if anyone else got this letter or new anything about it.

I received the letter as well. Will you be attending?

When did you get that letter? Btw, congrats!

I also received that letter, but I don't know if I can miss those extra two days of school. Argh.

I got it. And I'm definitely going. I'm so excited, lol.

So, this can be treated as a likely letter, right?

yeah i got it 2, but gettin down from mass will be tough

does this mean we are IN?

i got it too a couple of days ago. I'm pretty excited. but yeah im pretty sure its a likely letter. my class valedictorian got the same one.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. B/c under the Q&A, it states about how very rarely they recieve new info that causes them not to admit someone. So I interpreted that to mean if no new info was received, then you'll get admitted. But when I asked in another thread, another poster claimed they got a similar invitation @ another school, but later was deferred or waitlisted or something. Then again, this isn't another school. So I don't know.........

well lets see here..clues..

they said very strong applicant

occassionally they recieve new info(not often)

very rare( doesnt happen very often at all, to the point of never, but they are just saying it so u can't hold it against them if something does"

excellent chance for admission- excellent at a school like Duke must meen very good chances

also, another clue
" the most important thing is to make sure your application for financial aid is complete; our goal is to send each admitted student their financial aid award along with letter of admission."

hmmm

thats just my take, ne other thouhgts?

"They will process your financial aid package as quickly as possible"
-Doesn't sound like something you'd say to an applicant that wasn't admitted.

"Naturally, inviting you to campus means that we think ur a very strong candidate for admission."
-Like previously mentioned, this is a statement hard to come by at a school like Duke.

Yea, This is all very exciting to me. I really really want to goto Duke.

yeah man, but it sure be nice to get official notification

Well it will come in time, if its god's will. Until then WHOO, is anyone planning to go to the event? I AM!!!!

i wanted to, but plane flights from Boston are like $300, and ive already been there 2x

I probably wouldn't be going if I couldn't take the Duke Express for free. This'll be my first visit. I can't wait. The itinerary looks very exciting.

I really want to go, but the plane tickets are so costly. Also, are all the posters in this thread black?? I know it's a stupid question.

They don't offer free airfare for the minority student weekend? I know it's free for the regular "Duke Up Close" weekend.

how many students got this letter? ne1 know a ballpark?

They said there are limited funds but if you have financial need, you can notify them and they'll try their best to accomodate you.

I'm not sure how many students got the letter. I haven't heard anyone else in my school say anything. But there are only like 4 other ppl applying, so I don't know.
