I mean why would they invite us to the campus days before the decisions come out and give us an invitation to the admitted student’s weekend if we weren’t accepted??

Oh whoa, three years later… can’t believe someone brought this thread back.

Are likely letters exclusive to minority students?

^ Nope, non-minority students get them too. Check out this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/duke-university/1080952-does-duke-send-out-likely-letters.html

^^^ Yep, it’s pretty much an acceptance. And in the FAQ brochure, they say that as long as nothing makes them reconsider (which is they said is very rare) our chances are excellent. That’s as good as an acceptance to me.

Mika08; How are things going?

I got mine like a few weeks ago …ugh so excited to go to Duke…DOES THIS MEAN WE ARE ACCEPTED? …

I got an e-mail about it…I’m so incredibly excited:) I’m like 100% sure that this is a likely letter because I had a friend that went last year and said the president of duke came and told them that they were accepted.

So who’s definitely going? My flight is booked and everything. They were nice enough to pay for my travel. John Legend’s going to be there!

D has decided not to go. She’ll be at MIT the week after (they paid for that flight) and already missed classes to attend a similar program at USC two weeks ago. Once we know where else she has been accepted, we may try to get over there (we’re out west) and visit a few schools at once. Sad about it, though. It looks very interesting!

I’m definitely going! What if you live close by, do they still give you flights and stuff? Because I live about 4 hours away from Duke so I feel like flying is kind of a waste.

They did not pay for my daughter ( nor did she get financial aide). I think it’s related to need.

I’m about a 6 hour drive away, and they still paid for my flight. It is related to financial need. All I did was email the woman asking if i could get financial assistance for travel, and she said she was happy to help, no questions asked. That was a pleasant surprise, though I suppose they’re already in contact with the financial aid office.

How low is your EFC? Mine is kind of low (under $10,000) but it’s not like drastically low.

My FAFSA EFC is just over 4k.

Oh alright. What is ‘Duke Express’? This is one of the options that comes up when it asks you ‘How will you be getting to campus?’ And what is the Smart House we would be taking a tour of? LOL. I feel like I’ll just say yes to everything.

What is ‘Duke Express’?

^ I think it’s the bus you can take that travels a southern corridor. Like between Georgia and Virginia or DC.

duke express is for if you live in one of those states that they mentioned. i think two of them were maryland and virginia? i don’t have the information packet with me right now. i went ahead and said yes to the smart home tour. seems interesting.

I live in Virginia. I haven’t gotten the letter in the mail yet all I got was the e-mail. I guess I’ll wait until that comes to see.

I got the packet on Monday, then the email on Wednesday, and today I just got the exact same packet. I hope that wasn’t meant for someone else…

Oh wow that doesn’t sound good…well hopefully I’ll get something in the mail tomorrow and read about what this Duke Express is. I’m so excited though! Duke is my first choice. I’m not exactly sure whether or not to tell my friend’s I’ve been officially accepted yet hah.
