hello people
Iam an indian, studied until 10th grade in india, then did my O-levels in Singapore ( graduated in 2005) and now doing my polytechnic (diploma-3 years) in Singapore. Course:multimedia and infocomm technology.

I read somewhere in the threads here that Asians are over represented in Ivys. Is that true? If yes, does anyone know the statistics of indians getting into Harvard?(it was pretty blur in their website)

And do diploma holders get accepted into Harvard or anyother Ivys for that matter? Is Highschool or A-levels absolutely necessary for Harvard?

is a diploma like grade 12 or 13 in your country or is it more like a university degree? If it's the first case you'd probably have to apply thru the freshman process like everyone else.

The best way to find out is to email the universities themselves. Also ask your school authorities what the diploma is equivalent to.

To apply in American univ minimum requirements is a pass grade on O level. A levels are a plus but not necessary.
As far as # of Indians is concerned Harvard takes around 5 Indians every year(Those with Indian passport).

From my perspective anybody can apply to a reputable school, as long you do well in your course and have a good record of CCA (extra-curriculum), most importantly your "certificate" is recognised, you will have a chance. From what i know, no polytechnic student have been admitted there yet or even apply, but nevertheless you still can try applying. Since you are aspire to get into Harvard, i think you should aim to top your cohort and get a perfect 4.0 GPA at sch and graduate with a Diploma with Merit.

What i had juz written are purely my own perspective, others might have other opinion and thoughts. Anyway, reachingoals, your course sound familiar, wondering are we from the same polytechnic, i'm currently studying IT. You should be in your Year 1 Semester 2 by now rite?

Diploma in Singapore is an independent system from schools. It is not a university degree but a polytechnic diploma.
If it turned out that they do not accept diploma holders, i will take private A-levels. I was prepared for this. But i wonder if they would give more preference to students who took their A-levels through proper schooling than to private A-levels.

5 Indians? Are you sure it is for the whole college?

Yes Programmer88, iam in year 1, Semester 2 of Multimedia and Infocomm technology in NYP. Which poly are you from?

And another question guys. It was given in harvard's admission's website that they look at the student's Secondary School reports also. But from what i observed, everyone is bothered only about their high school grades/GPA.

Hoping that they do not consider sec school grades or O-levels because i royally screwed them up.

I tink that it is better for you to find out earlier whether they do take in diploma holders. Cuz if they dont, you will have to spend 3 years in poly and another additional 2 years as a A level private candidate.

Well Harvard would be quite difficult to get in, especially for diploma holders, considering that only 1 person was admitted to Harvard from RJC from their 2005 JC2 batch.
