I just received a letter in the mail today inviting me to apply to Amherst's Diversity Open House. Are there any other programs like this?

I know Smith has one.

resists urge to start another affirmative action debate

I know what you mean skateboarder…

Pretty much every school has these.

@ gthopeful

Should I just contact them for more details?

And ouch to the Affirmative Action comments.

kiterunner18, schools that plan these events put a great deal of effort into them, and you’ll certainly have a good time. If you were selected for Amherst DivOH, this simply means that you were identified as an exceptional candidate whom the admissions committee would like to see at Amherst.

And, if you attend, that is a significant advantage for you.

I hope some of these schools have white student open houses.

Oh wait, that would be racist.

And completely pointless.

FYI, skateboarder. . . from what I’ve read Caucasian people are invited to attend the DivOH, too. . .

Sure. I think many schools may even have someone whose job it is to organize diversity-related events.

Plenty of white people know about Amherst. ;)

Williams and Middlebury both have them but you need to be in touch with Williams within the next couple of weeks. I can’t remember if others did. Lots of the LACs have special events too once you are admitted.

Double check that the minority admissions officer has you on the radar. At a couple of admitted student events, the minority officer was taken by surprise and said he had not been aware of our daughter’s application. Those were the two colleges that had not invited her for minority events.

check out this thread

Thanks for the help! :)

If they didn’t invite SOME white people, then it’d be obvious the open house was to recruit minorities.
