I've wanted to major in history since grade school. Many people have tried to talk me into something else ( anthro, teaching, science) but I keep going back to history. I also know that I will have to double major or minor to get a job. The school I'm applying to has a few minors that I have considered, International bus, political sci, urban studies. Or I could double major in business and history. Or minor in history and find a new major. Can I get some input please?

I have considered majoring and business and minoring in history as a last resort.

history is not a bad major I don’t believe, but it does seem to get a bum rap when compared to other liberal arts majors. The first question that I think you need to ask yourself is what is that you want to do ultimately?

btw, I am minoring in spanish. It’s part of the core curriculum. You can’t go wrong with foreign language.

I want to move out of the U.S after graduation and work in the Scotland or England. Thats why I think the International business minor is a good idea. I don’t know what I want to do, possibly museum work.

I am going to be a future history and chemistry double major with a polyp sci minor. I say pick another subject which you passionate about for your other major.

figure out what you might want to do, and go from there. an international business major probably won’t help you find work in a museum, unless possibly as a museum administrator. if you’re interested in museums, history will be enough. if you want to become a curator, you’ll eventually need to get a degree in museum studies, and an advanced degree in history. things like conservation require separate degrees as well.

I majored in medieval and renaissance studies and I’m an editorial assistant at an NYC publishing house. internships meant way more to my job prospects than my major ever did.
