I am a undergrad political science major at CSULA. I'm hoping to go to law school and practice environmental law. I think that double majoring/minoring will help me to get into law school or act as a fall back in case law school does not work out. I'm pretty intimidated by the idea of double majoring so I am leaning toward just minoring in something. I want a good well-rounded minor that I can learn valuable skills from. However I'm not very good or confident with math even though I've heard that econ is a good minor for poli sci majors. I would rather get a good GPA with just poli sci than minor in a field I'm not familiar with and tank my GPA. Ultimately I would like suggestions for minors that would complement my major. Thanks in advance.

Don’t double major. If you must minor in something (it won’t drastically help with employment opportunities and law schools could care less), pick economics (I don’t imagine it would be that heavy in math for a minor) or philosophy.

Both will teach you sound reasoning and logic for the LSAT.

Double majoring or minoring will not help you get into law school, if anything the additional academic pressure will hurt your chance. If you WANT to double major or minor, do it.

History and philosophy are popular ones, as is econ. I am a fan of psychology and womens studies myself. Think about the kind of lawyer you want to be and see if anything would help you get a better background in that arena. Otherwise, go for things that are going to help you with your logic, reading, and writing. But beware, poli sci majors have a lot of reading as it is so if you’re not a reading superstar you might want to stay away from adding another social science lest you end up like me and LITERALLY NEVER DO ANYTHING BUT READ. It gets a little monotonous after a while.

Since you are interested in environmental law perhaps a minor in environmental science/studies would be helpful? Environmental economics is also a program offered. If you like a specific region of the world, that is something you can specialize in. Or if you like a foreign language, minor in that. Otherwise a minor really isn’t all that necessary nor desirable. It doesn’t hurt to minor in something that you are really interested in (because it further demonstrates your areas of interest) - but if you are just minoring in something for the sake of minoring in something, don’t waste your time

Change your major, then talk minors.

If your not very confident in math then definitely do Philosophy. LSAT is going to be a huge factor for admission to law school. Math or philosophy should help boost those scores.
