lol this thread might give false hope to people but ive heard of a lot of people getting in with 3.3 and a couple people with 2.9s accepted to non impacted majors

My lab partner from bio last spring semester was accepted into UCLA Biochemistry with a 3.2 GPA. He served 6 years in the Navy as a Corpsman though so they may have given him some favor towards his military service.

well basically i got a D in one of my classes last semester like a dumba** that put my GPA below the average admit. blows haha but my major is not impacted so we’ll see how that goes…dont really care much for CAL. UCLA is where the heart is haha. UCSB is the back up…came all this way to get a D in the fall 09. lol

I knew a girl who majored in chicano studies and had like a mid-to-high 2.0 GPA and got into Berkeley. It is chicano studies though, who really wants to major in that? What a waste of money and time.

i think chicano studies is fine for undergrad, just as long as you plan on getting your PhD in something else lo…the president of my cc was a chicano studies major at Davis and now he makes 130k+ a year. anything can take you far, just depends on what u decide to do

truthfully how many opening for community college dean or even professors are available every year. The odds of getting a job like that is a thousand to one so often a undergrad in humanities is not ideal even a phd doesn’t guarantee a job at anywhere , where the best job would be as a college professor

i dont care about the “chances”. the point is, THERE IS A CHANCE.

i hate it when people come on here and try to shi* on everyone elses major. worry about yourself. at least these people are in college and have set a goal. i dont care what that goal is for you or anyone else on this board, its just nice to know that YOU have your own. so keep that “useless” major bs to yourself.

back to the miracle admission stories please…

oh GREAT! haha.
Lovely to know that my 4/5 even 5 and 1/2 years of friggin class after class might culminate into Starbucks…that’d be a HUGE ■■■ moment right there.

Then again…when none of the other majors appeal to you, and you’re not going to be a doctor/lawyer/engineer/teacher/etc., where is there to go?

There are tons of articles like this one . They tell you to do what you love but in the end what do you want to accomplish with your major jeremy i’m not quite sure what yours is .

HAHAHA I hope I can be a part of this miracle thread with my 3.06 GPA to Davis (keep in mind I am a Design major and it’s not really competitive over there compared to the science-y majors)

SMC’s president went from CC to Cal with a major in Linguistics.

And Mayor Villaraigosa of LA went from CC to UCLA with a major in History.
…He also failed the bar exam 4 times & can’t practice law but makes ~$225k a year.

I’d call that a miracle haha."

Wow, if he failed the bar exam 4 times, he must be stupid. Also, making $225k a year does not mean you are intelligent. A lot of rich people are not intelligent.

And I agree that landing a president job at a CC is very rare, especially with Chicano studies. I can bet my life on it that a UC would never hire a president/ or whatever with that degree. And if I was a recruiter I would not hire someone with that degree; it is the same caliber as basket-weaving. And I know many people without college degrees that make more than $225k. There are exceptions to the rule, but generally a crappy degree=crappy money.

And this just further proves that a lot of politicians are ■■■■■■■■ to begin with.

I see nothing wrong with linguistics as a major.
