I'm thinking about dual majoring, and I'm tryin to see which field in business could complement a computer science major the best. I know that MIS and CS have a lot of overlap, but I was wondering if there is so much that this combination could possibly be less useful than if I picked another business field. Does anyone have any insight on this?

I don’t think there’s that much of a overlap because from what I’ve heard, computer science is mostly programming and math. MIS is, as you already know, business related. I was a CIS major and most of the electives dealt with networking, gaming, data mining, forensics, etc. Although I would say it’d be more useful to pick another business field, I would also say nothing’s wrong with going for the double major

How heavy on CS is your MIS program?

IS, MIS and CIS vary so much school to school.

The CIS program at CalPoly Pomona has multiple Java, C, C++, web dev, etc classes, but you can go to another cal state Information Systems (without the C) program and it will basically all be about creating databases and networks for accountants and might require 0 traditional programming.

Pet peeve of mine… They reallllly need to start sorting IS, MIS, CIS out from each other and setting up specific definitions for each one.
