I am majoring in Management Information Systems and UT (University of Texas) has one of the best programs in the country, top 5 in most rankings I've seen. UTD (University of Texas at Dallas) has a good program as well but they are well below UT in rankings but UTD is an up and coming school.

I live about ten minutes away from UTD and about 3 hours from UT. UTD has much cheaper tuition and cheaper housing if I decide to move out. I don't think I'll have a problem getting into UT.

A&M is attractive because it is one of the best schools in Texas, they have a program to where I can get free tuition but their program may not be as good and is further than either UT or UTD.

I just don't know how to choose and I need to decide quickly because I need to transfer by the Fall to begin my major classes. UT, best program, most expensive. UTD, more convenient/cheaper. A&M, free tuition, excluding housing. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Are you already at UT and are thinking of transferring to UTD or A&M? Or are you at a fourth school you haven’t talked about, or are you a high school student who has not yet started college?

Sorry, I should have clarified. I am currently at UTA, which the UT branch in Arlington but they don’t have a great program and I really don’t like the school or the city. I’m also taking a classes at a community college as well. I live in Dallas, about 10 minutes from UTD.

UT Austin
A&M

{big gap}

UTD

UT Austin has one of the top 10 undergrad business schools in the country, and the MIS program is top 5. It’s VERY competitive to externally transfer though. What’s your GPA?

A&M is also a good top-notch school as well. If you can go there for free (I’m not sure what program you’re talking about though), then go there.

UTD is a third-tier satellite school. It’s definitely up-and-coming and the most respected of the UT branch campuses, but nowhere near UT Austin or A&M.

I wouldn’t write UTD off completely. It has a lot of connections with the Fortune 500 companies in the DFW area. It’s not the same as “up and coming” other satellite schools since it started off as an upper division/graduate program only. This means it has always been very oriented to the application side of academics especially anything IS related.

I know you’re in a rush but I would strongly recommend a trip to the schools and contact the specific departments for information.

andrewt787, they have a program for undergrad students called Aggie Assurance, for lower income families and my household would fall under the amount which I believe is 65,000. It does not cover housing though so I would need to get that covered with loans and stuff like that. I was looking into their business program and it is pretty competitive, I was just talking about getting in to UT in general. My GPA at last check was around a 3.4 I believe so I’m not sure about that.

Although if I did want to go to UT, I could take the classes and declare later, already being a student.

EDIT: Here is that program: https://financialaid.tamu.edu/types/aggie_assurance.aspx

sadilly, I have been to UTD multiple times and I like the campus, it is very laid back and everyone is pretty much focused on doing the work and leaving. I have been to UT once and I really didn’t like it a whole lot because it is just so packed and congested. I have spoken with many people about UTD and their program but I haven’t spoken to anyone about UT’s or A&M’s.

I will probably visit A&M sometime this semester, soon because I will be pretty much done with the core aside from a class or two once this semester ends. But I’m not completely sold on just these three schools, if anyone familiar with MIS programs have any suggestions, please.

Hey, how about some advice on MIS course?
thanks
