Just a couple of misc questions
-I want to dorm in a room with community baths, but I’d really like it if there’s a sink in the dorm room. I read on the website that some residence halls rooms have sinks and some don’t. Which halls do?
-Which halls have community kitchens? If so, are there usually people in there?
-Should I consider bringing my own printer? Or are there computer labs/libraries/places at the CNS where I can print for free?
-Should I consider bringing a handheld vacuum? Or is there usually someone/somewhere I can borrow one from?
-I know rice cookers aren’t allowed in the dorm rooms, but is it possible/easy to sneak one in?
I can partially answer. Jester East and West - if Community baths - have sinks in the rooms. According to some of the floor plans online, it appears that Kinsolving, one or more Honors dorms and possibly Moore-Hill. There used to be a matrix somewhere that would define that more clearly. I cannot seem to find it.
Dorm RAs will be able to check out vacuums and brooms. Printer is a personal choice for convenience. There are locations all over where you can use Bevo Bucks to pay for printing.
Rice Cooker is not a good idea. $50 fine if it is found in your room. Try the microwave rice cookers!
-Jester West/East both have sink in the room, Kingsolving does too. Dorms with higher prices such as Duren or San Jacinto have private baths. I’ve been all of them and can confirm that, not sure about other dorms.
-Jester West/East have public kitchen but the one in East is very small (located in the first floor near the piano, just a small room with the door closed when not used). I didn’t see many people were there when I was in the East.
-Yes you should definitely bring your printer, otherwise you will have to go to the libraries when you need to print (10 cents per page for black and white). Not sure about other majors but if you are a CS major then you can print your stuff in the basement of GDC for free (needs a cs account to access those cs lab computers). Also if you are in any entry programs like TIP/Gateway/etc you can go to the office and print for free.
-You don’t need a vacuum. You can always borrow one in the front desk in your dorm, just give them your ID card and check one out.
-Technically you are not allowed to. But if you try to sneak one in, just watch the smoke (if there’s any) and make sure it doesn’t trigger the smoke detector since the room is kind of small. Lol also the window is sealed so don’t let your RA smell that. You do get a microwave in the dorm and most people use that.
