Meant to say international student from Western Europe (they have tons from Asia as well as South/Central America so not really too interesting :-p )

come on RBM and ninjapiratejon, atleast have some pride about the school you are going to. if you dislike it so much why didn't you go somewhere else or why not just transfer?

I went to the Open House and talked to some of the people about international studies. If I remember correctly, the woman said that in order to major you are supposed to study abroad, from two weeks to an entire year, and write up a final report/project describing your experience.

I personally think that's an amazing way to study international studies/affairs, whereas other colleges would just want you to study out of a textbook. At least Bentley wants to immerse you in your field of study.

Holachica, just ignore Ninja and RBM. Whether they attend Bentley or not, they don't major in international studies and thus can't make a valid assessment. I have attended and taught at several universities. I can tell you unequivically that I can't evaluate programs that I haven't taken or specialized in even at the universities that I attended.

You need to evaluate the programs for yourself by looking at the course offerings. Check out students who specialize in those areas and then decide for yourself. Don't use these forums to make your decisions.

Taxguy -- Are you crazy? I wanted to double major in with international business and international studies, with a concentration in Latin America. At Bentley? Ha ha! It is impossible to double major unless you do the LSM, a "Global Perspectives" is the only thing close. Concentrate in Latin America? Sure, but becoming someone who supposedly specializes in Latin America only requires taking two beginner and two intermediate level Spanish courses. We all know what Tony the Tiger says!... Do I really have to repeat myself? You aren't even addressing anything that I'm saying, which means you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

Holachica -- It doesn't matter. If you major in any international studies related field at any university without leaving the country, you will never get a good job. But frankly, most of Bentley's offerings are limited to Western Europe. Hooray! Let's frolic amongst other English speaking people! I wanted to study in Chile. Nope. Lebanon? Nope. Russia?? Nope. I also wanted to study Arabic. I was very happy that I could learn it at Bentley, but... the professor that taught it quit at the end of the semester before I began attending. Give that a thought before you make your decision.

Ok, so if you want international studies in Lebanon or Russia don't go to Bentley? However, I see nothing wrong, not to mentioned being safer, focusing on Europe.

As for Arabic, don't forget you can take courses at St. Regis and Brandeis. If they offer it, you can take it.

As for double majoring, schools are split regarding this. Some schools encourage it and some don't. With some, you have to come in in with a number of AP courses (such as 4 or more) before you have enough openings for double majoring. This problem isn't endemic just to Bentley.

Finally, RBM before you call me or anyone crazy, reread my post. I never addressed the double majoring situation. I only addressed the course offerings, which does look good. I also recommend anyone reading this thread to go to the urls that I posted on post number 17
