miscellaneous. help please.

sorry this is so random. 1)where exactly is embar hall? i'm not seeing it on the campus map for some reason. some of the winter classes opened up so i'm checking if i could switch some around. 2)i know at my cc, it was easy to get from one class to another within 10 minutes. how is it like at ucsb? can i get from the IV theater to buchanan hall in 15 minutes? specifically 12:15-12:30, within the lunch hour so i'm guessing it's a pretty hectic time around campus. would embar to buchanan be easier? 3)i'll be taking 15 units, including 2 upper divison. is that too much for my first quarter transferring? what did you guys take your first quarter? 4)should i get a ucsb hoodie? i didn't really notice at orientation but on other campuses i've been around, it seems like it's mostly freshman & not too many older students wearing school affliated clothing. 5)i also heard of this "circle of death" on the bike path, where is that located & how do i stay alive? 6)in the dorms, how do the communal kitchenettes work & what exactly do they provide? 7)where can i get a nice bag & security cable (if needed?) for my laptop?

that's all for now. thanks.

1) Embar Hall probably referrs to Embarcardero Hall, which is a few blocks west of campus in isla Vista.

2) Depends. On bike, you should be able to navigate most of the campus within that time limit, but walking may take a little longer.

3) I'm taking 12 my first quarter now, and I'm struggling a bit, but that's probably due to my poor study habits. 15 should be alright if you keep on top of the work and don't let the 10 weeks of the quarter sail by.

4) Lots of people wear UCSB attire, my house is second and third years and I still see a lot of UCSB attire.

5) Probably referring to the circle near Storke Tower, just slow down and be prepared to put your foot on the ground during rush hour.

6) Never used it (in Manzanita Village, buildings are paired and only 1 of the pair has the kitchenette, mine doesn't), but I believe there's a electric stove.

7) I assume the University Center (UCEN) should have it.

Back to cramming for finals for me! Sorry if my answers were breif.

Originally, I was taking 16 units my first quarter. But due to an accident I had to drop 8 of those units. Been taking 16 units (as an engineering student) since then for 2 years now, while managing a job and gf. It's feasible.

I'm still represting mine. 8)

It's more likely that older students will be less likely to care about what you think they wear, while freshmen do.

5)i also heard of this "circle of death" on the bike path, where is that located & how do i stay alive?
rc stated one, there's a worse one (imo) inbetween IV, San Raf and HSSB. You get the rush from San Raf/Manz/IV/and HSSB people. What makes it worse I feel is that there's this big mound of dirt in the middle that creates a blind spot. Some stupid people walk across there, and during late nights they try to cut across -- and the thing is, you don't see them until you turn.

Don't bike if you want to stay alive -- but that's silly. It's just like driving a car, even if you drive carefully, there will be plenty of others to screw you up.

6)in the dorms, how do the communal kitchenettes work & what exactly do they provide?
Fridge, stove, oven, microwave are in most dorms. Some lack ovens and fridges.

7)where can i get a nice bag & security cable (if needed?) for my laptop?

Get it especially if you're going to have a roommate going in and out of your room. You can buy it at any computer store.
