My first question concerns laptops. I've seen the recommendations and the PC ones don't look very impressive. I went to Best Buy today and messed around with Macs and it was kinda complicated for me, considering I've been using PC for my entire life. I know there isn't a preference on campus, but I kinda need some help here. Are Macs pretty quick to learn? Any reason I should stay away from them...besides the price?

Next question: Are there any 4x4 clubs at Clemson? I know there is a car club, have a friend in that, but I'm looking for a club that goes off road two or three times a month at least.

3: For those of you at Clemson, how many people have TVs? I think all the university provides is basic cable so having an HDTV is kinda pointless. I've been thinking about buying a 32", but my parents think I should go with something smaller. Is theft a big issue?

I can’t give you a knowledgeable answer for your last two questions but I’ll give you my opinion on the first one. If you have the money to blow on a Mac computer then by all means go ahead and buy one. Learning how to use one is a very minor problem and you will adapt quickly. The advantages of using the computers that the campus recommends is the simple fact that the university offers technical support on campus and warranty which is extremely beneficial when facing issues.

I’m planning on getting the Clemson Macbook, the Dell Latitude that they offer isn’t very good for the price, I’d rather spend $100-200 more and get a MacBook

aparenz-Thanks for the reply. I had thought about the support as well. Will they not even touch your computer if it wasn’t “recommended”? I know that if you have a recommended one then they will give you a loner.

pierre0913-Right now I’m looking at the Macbook, Asus G50Vt, and Sager 8662. The last top are looking really nice.

I’m sure you can find people on campus that would be willing to work on a mac computer, but they wont be able to guarantee the same type of support you’d receive from the actual company.

aparenz, Clemson has an Apple Store on campus, you can get your Mac laptops fixed there
