When I think of the University of Florida, I always think that it is more science based and is not as strong in history/foreign languages/area studies as other schools of its caliber? Am I confused? Would I be better off going to UF and paying nothing (Bright futures) or going to a school such as Gtown, GWU, Middlebury, Macalaster, or American if I was intersted in history/foreign languages/area studies? I want to go to a good college and UF is about as good as you can get in Florida, I could go to FSU but, eh, didnt like it. Any suggestions?

UF's graduate program in history is ranked 46th nationally (US News)....so it must be a pretty solid program. In general, UF has lots of top-50 programs across-the-board in things other than science and engineering. With bright-futures, it's a bargain and very hard to overlook.

The only good college in Florida is UF. And UF is pretty damn good.

Why waste your time with a second tier for 40K when UF will be around second tier in the near future?

There's really no point, imo.

Actually, UF is in the Top 50 (US News Rankings, National Universities), and #75 in the world. Therefore you get almost a free education in an awesome university.

yup, number 50 is first tier - not "almost second tier" ;)

Yep...

No... I think UF is better than #50.... it is a really great school with excellent facilities. :)

Does anyone know anything about self designed majors at UF, becuase my big problem with UF is their lack of an International Relations major?

Oh but i found it, sort of. They have an International Studies major that is HIDDEN in interdisciplinary majors. I asked and they said it may soon be a stand alone major. Looks like i can use my full ride after all!

They don't have an IR major, but they have some kind of certification for it if you take certain classes. You can make up any major you want with interdisciplinary, but most people in my honors poli sci class just do the certificate thing.
