Misdemeanor.

Before I begin, I just want to say: Please don't reply if you won't help me out here. I know I did a stupid thing and I have for sure learned from it, I don't need anyone else 'putting me down'.

Stealing is a stupid thing, I know. I also know it is wrong but I did it anyway. I'm 16 and a Junior in high school. I have been charged with a misdemeanor for stealing $95.00 worth or merchandise at a clothing store. It's my first time and the police were involved. I was cooperative and everything and when I asked them if it affected my college chances, he said no because they only look for felonies and violence past, not misdemeanors.

My past record is clean and I am very active in school with good grades. I also do volunteer for community service.

If anyone else has a misdemeanor for shoplifting, help me out please.

YOU DONT DESERVE TO GO TO COLLEGE YOU WORTHLESS CRIMINAL!

LMAO I bet youre psed hahah . But seriously, what do you need help with? the officer told you you were off the hook correct? By the way, we’re kids. It’s no big deal and I Dont think there are many people here (at least those of us who are competent) that will hold your ‘misdemeanor’ against you. I’ve done stupider sh** bro (mischief night '08, '09, '10, '11 with cops involved 2 out of 4 times). Chill and keep focused on those academics and your life will pan out.

chance back : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1233558-my-story-will-my-dream-schools-understand.html</a></p>

I wish I was of the hook though! I have to go to court and everything.
When you applied to colleges, have they asked you or used your “stupid sh**” against you?

Still applying to college, but no, i dont think they ask for misdemeanors. I’m not planning on mentioning mischief night despite police involvement. All they ask for on the common app is for criminal charges, which yours doesnt count as.

Misdemeanors don’t count as criminal charges? O_O

read this: [What is a Misdemeanor? - Criminal Information Network](http://www.criminalinfonetwork.com/misdemeanor.htm)
good luck.

Thanks a bunch! (:

You’re required to put it on the common app, along with whether you’ve ever been suspended from the 9th grade forward. (I was suspended in 8th grade, you can imagine how happy I was about that, lol)

I think it’s fine, but if you can include in your essay or a short response that you did this and how it’s changed you, you could actually use it to your advantage. Good luck! :D

They go on honesty above all else! It’s up to you but the common app asks specifically about criminal charges and disciplinary action by the school

or you could just decide not to do it again, and forgive yourself by not mentioning it. join my in the dark side

^And if they find out, you’d get blacklisted by every college in the nation. Right on.

Yes, don’t lie about that. You must report misdemeanors. If you lie, you could be in more trouble and definitely rescinded. To OP, as long as you explain it, you should be fine at most…depending on stats vs. school, of course.

I agree with lexieam’s advice. She is a very talented student at our school and is known to have extremely good judgment on moral issues. And she’s going to Brown University next year!

Thanks a bunch!
