Misdemeanor

My son's highest prospect is attending the University of Florida,
he has a 4.5 GPA, over 600 hours of community service, a 1940 (1350) SAT score, and a 32 ACT score. He doesn't play sports but is part of a few clubs and teams.
He turned his application in early this month and last Friday received a misdemeanor for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

He got an NTA (Notice to Appear) and is most likely going to be forced to do the Diversion program before the charges are gone. He answered no to the application's question about being convicted as he hadn't before now, will he have to disclose this recent event to admissions or can he complete the diversion program before December 31st and be fine?

Also, all things aside, are those reasonable scores for admission to UF?
Thank you for any information

I do not know the actual requirements, but I would avoid telling them about it if you think it can be expunged. They don’t require you to tell them about expunged convictions. If you tell them, I would expect that to greatly hurt your son’s chances of getting into UF (and any other school for that matter.)

I don’t have too thorough a understanding of criminal activity, but it sounds like the way you described it is that he won’t ever be “convicted” so long as he abides by the court’s rules and completes the program. Then his record will be clean. If that’s the case, then I see no reason you would have to report it to admissions.
