Misdemneaor?

So i have had a clean record all my life and got charged with use/poss of marijuana.

We might get the case dropped or friend to take the blame.

I might be paying a fine, doing some comm. service and being on probation.

That doesn't matter to much to me. What does is this going on my record for when i apply for careers out of college. Thinking of majoring in accounting or econ and currently I am a freshman at Northern Arizona University.

Will this charge hold me back?
Can i ever get it cleared?
If they found nothing on me on the search but they did later on the ground can they prove it's mine?

Any legal Advice?

how much did you get busted with? If it's small amounts, and not intent to sell or anything then it can be expunged for a fee after a certain amount of time and hoops you need to jump through.

I'm not sure the exact details, but I know my friend did something similar.

I got a CCW, and got it dropped. You should get it dropped; if not, companies and universities will see it on your record.

How can i get it dropped.

The size of marijuana was the size of a nickel maybe a dime.
Any advice?

the best advice is talk to a lawyer, he'll know all of this stuff, and a good lawyer is the way you'll get it dropped.

Good luck man, I would hate to have taht on my record over just a nickel.

How many grams was the sack? Sounds like a dime bag; which should be a small fine. Check out http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=4516 because I'm not sure where you live, and this will tell you the marijuana laws, state by state.

haha click arizona the fines are ridiculous cause i think they are for drugged driving.
Will a lawyer cost tons?

Damn, Arizona is messed up... yeah an lawyer costs alot of money. Maybe around 800 dollars for a misdemneaor, I'm guessing.

Colorado is the coolest state. 1 ounce or less (on you) is legal in the city of Denver and is a petty offense anywhere else in the state.

^^legal in the city doesn't mean legal in the state. Don't think you're safe.

that is only driving under the influence of marijuana.

I dont mind paying a fine or going probation.

I heard a rumor it can clear off my record if i have a clean record for 3 years?

this true?
WOuld a lawyer give free legal advice?

It's something similar to that, at least in my state, but I couldn't quote you laws.

Probably not unless you know them, it's possible you might be able to get a free consultation, but Lawyers wont give up their time unless they think they're gonna get something out of it.

Anybody know any law student friends or somebody i might be able to contact online?

gatordan can ya get a hold of your friend now.

I dont care about paying a fine, doing comm service or probation. im never smoking again in my life.
I figured out i can do a lot more and have more fun in cheaper alternative ways.
I am so FREAKED out about job interviews after college/grad school though now.

Will they understand? i mean a class 1 misdeameanor isn't that bad?

You're a freshman in college- jobs/grad schools know people make a lot of ****ty mistakes when they're young; as long as you stay away from anything criminal from now on and show maturity, it should be ok.

You won't be able to get financial aid now...

Hopkins i hope your joking about the financial aid.

There is no way the university can do that for such a small charge.

This is the same charge as a MIC or MIP a class 1 misdemeanor.
This stuff happens in college a lot, don't make me worry more.

Its federal financial aid
But they want it to happen because its less money for them...

"
Aid Eligibility
Eligibility for federal student aid is*based on financial need and on several other factors. The financial aid administrator at the college or career school you plan to attend will determine your eligibility. ...

The Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended (HEA) suspends aid eligibility for students who have been convicted under federal or state law of the sale or possession of drugs. If you have a conviction(s) for these offenses, call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or go to theFAFSA on the Website, click on "Before Beginning A FAFSA" in the left column, then clickon "Drug Worksheet"to find out how this law applies to you."

Wow.
Thinking about this is the biggest mistake of my life now if convicted.

Thing is it's not even mine and nothing was found on me.

If my dad finds out this i dunno what i will do.

Is my financial aid gone for all of college?

I believe its a couple of years.
