Is it a for sure deal if convicted?

Don't i still get to talk to my financial aid advisor here and try and work something out?
I'm thinking of working a part-time job now for a lawyer now.

The financial aid office has nothing to do with federal aid and if they try to do something for you, they are breaking the law then.
The only solution would be for you to go to counseling I believe, but you most likely won't be finished by the time the FAFSAs are due so most likely for 06/07 you won't have any federal aid...

My brother got caught a few years back with possession of pot and paraphenalia. He managed to get off with a fine and I forget what else (I was long gone from home already...). What I do know is that since he was caught as a minor, it became expunged from his record at 18. If go to court, you can make sure it is expunged at 18 (if you are still a minor)...don't know how that would affect fin. aid since college isn't my brother's thing...

Edit: re-read the first post...yeah you're a freshman in college, so likely not a minor. I know that at least in PA that they are much stricter on minors for possession charges than adults. Get friendly with your state laws and maybe consult a professor you trust (a mentor?) for advice. Good luck

My advice is to do whatever it takes to get a good lawyer. Don't rely on your professor, but pay for help. That's how you'll get the best help. Perhaps the professor you know can refer you to a good lawyer.

Also use the college counseling center because you're under a lot of stress due to your current situation and your parents' divorce. You need to keep the upward trend in grades that you'd managed last year.

Best of luck to you.

Ive had this same prob in high school (minor consumption of alcohol and possesion of marijuana)... I had a lawyer talk to the judge on my behalf and tell him about my grades and activities and my juvie sentence was dropped and the offense was expunged after 14 days house arrest and 3 months probation

Don't worry about it! seriously, they'd be nuts to charge you with anything for a damn dime bag! Even if they do they'll probably just give you something where if you don't get arrested for 6 months for drugs it'll be erased. that's what happened to me, 'course that was in NY.

Well seriously when i visit the judge after thanksgiving the 1st part will start.

I hear i should get off if i plead not guilty if i HAVE to go to court.
They might just fine me and give me a warning or i might be on 6 months probation.
Wonder if that will affect the finacial aid sitation though such as my Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship?

No worries.
Went to court and am on probation.

After dropped its cleared.
