I got in the 63 percentile in December and applied to SPS and got rejected. I then applied late to MPS and submitted my app. last week (they have one or two spots for freshmen boarders available). I'm taking the test again next week but was wondering what people got on their ssat's and still got accepted into MPS. Math is definatley my weakest point but I think my strong verbal and reading makes up for it. Give me answers!

All I can is that after taking the test a second time I did much, much better. First time my score was <75 and the second time I got a 95.

Im taking the test next week and I’ve had only 1 week to study. How much did you study the first and second time?

What did you get for math, reading, and verbal?

I took the test for the second time last December and ended up scoring around a 41% (56 V, 54 R, 26 M) and retook it in January and got a 64%. (78 V, 70 R, 35 M)

Good luck!

Well i dont remember my exact scores, but i got 63 percentile overall

I got an 86 % and was admitted (90 something verbal and reading, 74 ish math). i was going to retake it but never got around to it. i suggest you retake it and score at least in the 70s or 80s. SPS wnt even consider apps >high 80’s,90’s prefereably, but MPS accepts i think higher 70’s +. it may say on the SSAT site or on [Please wait…](http://www.porters.org)

so my goal percentile should be in the 70s at the very least?

Someone on here last year was accepted with a score in the mid 60s, and I’m pretty sure SPS’ average is only in the mid 80s.

Wow, but there are other reasons why someone wouldnt get in besides ssat scores. how much does MPS rely on the scores?

not a ton, but they do matter. as do grades and mostly teacher recs. they want a well balanced student who is academically motivated and doing well in school. so, yes in summary, aim for at least 70s. i also was dependent on at least 90 % aid, so that made it more competitive for me. if you dont need much aid then lower scores won;t hurt you.

What was your weakest part of the test? how much did you study before hand and what did you study with? sorry for all the questions

math, which im horrible at, i got a 74 i believe. (this was several years ago so i dont remember exactly). I did a few practice tests to see what the questions would be like, which is really the only way to study for it. Study some vocab lists or play FreeRice ;), stuff like that. don’t stress a ton, it’s just like any other standardized test you’ve had to take (like ERBs, etc).

i think im just going to keep taking practice tests

walden,

At this late date, I don’t think MPS will mind your SSAT score. Why are you re-taking it? Did they ask you to? Their average score is around a 65% so you are right in their target area.

Im retaking it because i feel like i am at a disadvantage for applying late. im also applying for FA, so i dont think it can hurt. ill be calling the admissions office tomorrow and will be asking some questions about the ssat. but thanks, your post was really helpful.

I’m going to Miss Hall’s this fall and my ssat percentile was 83% shoot for around there.

yeah definatley. my goal is the 80s, but high 70s at least.
