I was signed up for something like a fall visit day at one of my colleges last week but I ended up getting sick and didn't go. I had searched the website and didn't see anywhere to un-sign up. I also never got around to emailing and explaining just because I was sick. I just didn't show up. I'm applying RD so I have time to do another tour to show my interest. Will the college view my ditching as reason to not accept? I feel like I really messed up here.
Also, how much does "showing interest" matter to admissions? I haven't had a chance to travel all around the country to all my colleges and I don't want that to make it seem like I'm not really interested.
Please help!!

Yep, they’re going to match you with the naughty list of “tour ditchers = rejects”. C’mon. This is less than nothing.

When I last went on a tour, the only identification they had of me was me crossing my name off of the list… Just so they knew when to get going. You’re fine.

If it is a smaller school you can always email admissions, let them know you were ill, and mention that you will sign up for another tour.

There are ways to demonstrate interest other than visiting. For some people because of cost and distance, visiting makes no sense until they are accepted. Some ideas to show interest from afar are: 1) sign up for the mailing list 2) if the college comes to your HS or to a local fair show up and sign in 3) you can ask if it is possible to get an interview locally with an alumni, 4) if you have a question or two that aren’t answered on the website you can email you admissions officer with them 5) if there are any online conversations with admissions sign up and participate, even if just for a little while.

Thank you all! I knew I was just over thinking and being stupid but this college stuff is really scary business. Thank you for easing my mind and I will surely take your advice, happy1.
