Missed CSS Profile deadlines-now what?

A young friend’s parents had no clue they were supposed to file this; they’d never heard of it. I dropped the ball (I had helped the young person with college apps) assuming they knew what to do in regards to financial aid-wrong. They did file the FAFSA in time.

Now what? Will schools still consider them if they file the Profile today or tomorrow? The deadlines for the two schools was Feb. 1 and Feb. 2.

Can the parent call the f. aid offices and plead his case or just submit and see what happens?

I would submit asap before making any calls.

Ok, I’ll recommend that to my friend. Thanks.

Submit and then call.

That’s what he did, and both schools said it was ok. Whew. Unfortunately, the student missed the deadline for Alabama scholarships. I thought he’d gotten his app in on time, but Bama said no. Bummer.

They’re lucky to have you looking out! Most schools that require CSS also require either idoc or tax returns/w2s sent directly to the schools, and those deadlines are often 3/1-4/1 - so you might tell them to check those also, I found that info on the school web sites for D.

Yes, College Board told them about the IDOC, so he started working on that, as well. Student only applied to 7 schools, three UCs (FAFSA only), three highly selective schools (all Profile schools and I think just one IDOC-not sure about JHU if it’s IDOC or not), and Alabama. I think I told them to check all the schools’ deadlines and requirements.

For people who are on the outside looking in, the whole process can seem overwhelming. Heck, for those of us who know something of the process, it’s still overwhelming.

It’s a PITA. Several of D’s schools don’t use idoc, they want me to mail/fax my tax return, her tax return, her NCP’s tax return and some also want W-2s, 1099s, etc. It’s a sad day when I say I wish all schools used idoc…

OHMom, so even the schools that require CSS still require you to mail taxes? Ok, big breath. I need to go through my son’s 23 (that’s right, 23) colleges to make sure I’m not missing something! Bleh. Seemed like a good idea at the time…

And that is why it isn’t such a great idea to apply to too many schools… You need to figure out exactly what each school wants and when. A spreadsheet to track would be a good idea. And if there is a NCP, small business, or any trusts involved, many schools will also ask for returns and/or forms related to those… Ick.

Yeah. I just found one school that requires 2014 taxes by Feb. 16. Whew! I’m going through the list now.

My son was such an uneven candidate, we felt he needed to apply to a lot of schools to find one that was affordable since we are of fairly moderate means, and the affordable schools are the ones he’s least likely to get into (tippy top schools that meet 100% need).

Ok, that was easy! Only that one school required something that I missed. Since he only applied to 9 privates, the rest are all just FAFSA schools. Of the 9 privates, five are IDOC and that’s done. Two don’t require anything extra until admitted, and two were just Profile and FAFSA (and probably will require verification if accepted and attending).

Easier than I thought!

Good thing you’re so organized and had all the info together.
