Missed deadline to request interview, should I email to ask?

So I missed the deadline to request an interview at a college I applied to. What happened was a message from the college reminding me of the deadline to request an interview was caught in the spam filter of my email and I never got it until after. I’ve disabled my spam filter so this doesn’t happen again.

The problem? That deadline was about 2 months ago. I initially just felt stupid and just hoped that I wouldn’t be hurt too much by not requesting an interview. The portal locked me out of even trying so I just gave up. Recently, my mom heard of a friend’s son who had an interview there and asked me when mine was. I told her the whole story and now she’s forcing me to send an email to them asking for an interview. I feel that it might hurt my chances for admission by sending an email to the admissions people about this 2 months late, but she says it can’t hurt and that I should anyway. I know she won’t stand over my shoulder and make me send the email so I could probably just say they wouldn’t interview me and she would take that.

Any advice CC?

If you want to go, email them. If you don’t, let it be. Honestly if I had put in the hard work for essays and paid the money, theres no way I would let it slide by… the worst that can happen is they say no- and they are already going to do that if you don’t complete your profile.
