I missed the interview deadline for RD (December 10th), because I was focusing completely on my EA school (regretting this now). Just saw that admission rate for people who did not accept an offered interview is ~1%. My EC also noted not to wait till the last moment to schedule an interview. Should I send an email asking for one anyway, or just not do an interview?
Ask for one now. The AO tries to help wherever it can. I hope everyone who reads this post understands how important it is to request an interview early.
MIT should stop interviewing everybody. This was ok when there were only a few thousand applicants. Now that the number has ballooned, it’s causing a ton of stress on students who can’t get an interview scheduled. Everybody I know had a tough time getting one. I wish MIT would take the lead and only interview students under serious consideration.
I did not have a hard time getting one…
You’re lucky or from a less congested area. Kids I know were really worried because they couldn’t get one set up as the deadline drew near. As I said, not interviewing a fraction of the students, those rejected in the early round for example, would ease the burden on the interview process.
I don’t think there is any burden, from MIT’s perspective, there are a very large number of alumni acting as Educational Counselors all over the world, and all 50 states, and each year more alumni are added, so its a very large group of interviewers now. But yes, call early to schedule, August is good! Skype interviews are also used for some areas of the world. OP should ask, may be able to schedule one.
I think MIT is being burdened by the number of interviewees. I’m aware of seven students from my neighborhood who applied. They all had problems getting interviews scheduled. Mid Atlantic and California are probably impacted the most. Skype is a great option which should be made more readily available.
