missed interview deadline

i didn't know that you had to submit part I by dec. 1st to be contacted for an interview...will that hurt me a lot..??

no, i was accepted ED with no interview..

What exactly is the difference from an Alumni interview and an interview directly with Duke? And does everyone get one?

If I'm not mistaken, Duke has actually ended the practice of giving admissions officer/on-campus interviews because it took up too much time. As for the alumni interviews, you need to submit your application before a certain date (check the website) to be guranteed one. I was accepted ED this year, and had an alumni interview. To be honest, they werent really for much else other than getting to tell them something about yourself that you didnt mention in your app or for finding out more about people's experiences with Duke. Still, if you don't get one, dont worry, it won't affect your chances bcz it's something you can't control. A number of admissions officers have told me that it's barely a factor in their decisions.

nope i got an on campus interview over the summer wiht a current senior

thanks y'all...that's relieving...

i missed it too :) don't worry-- i'm sure tons of people did.

i just got emailed for my alumni interview...woo hoo

I had my alumni interview yesterday! It was pretty casual. I was surprised at how informal the interview it was. Sorry to change the subject but does anyone know when regular notification is?

don't they mail the letters out april first...like everyone else?

Last year they mailed letters out March 31st, I believe, and I received my acceptance on the first or the second. As for interviews, I missed the deadline as well and that obviously didn't affect my admissions decision. I actually really liked that, because Duke is up front about how little they truly matter.

At all my other interviews (for Columbia, Cornell, Brown, etc) my interviewers were so concerned with how much I wanted to attend their school and where else I was applying it made me uncomfortable. But I may have just had a strange experience. Anyway, unlike most of the Ivies, Duke explicitly states it does not take yield into account in its admissions decisions, which leads to its only accepting 30% of the class early and so 70% of the spots open are still for regular applicants. This is markedly different from the policies of Columbia, Cornell, UPenn, etc.—where over half the class is accepted early--which cause admission into the regular round to be dramatically different from the early one.

Duke does not care about your interest in attending but rather your fit to the school, which I think is very fair versus the policies of schools like Wash U, where you feel as though you are playing a game with admissions officers. From talking to Duke admissions officers and seeing results from my school it is clear that Duke really believes in accepting the most qualified (holistically) applicants.

Sorry if that is a little long but I wanted to explain why interviews really do not matter in the admissions process at Duke versus some other schools which may value them more highly.

I agree with you about some schools worrying about the yield more. My Brown interviewer was very interested in where else I had applied and that annoyed me.

But I think one of the reasons that Duke does not accept as large of a percent of their class early is because their early pool is just not as strong as some of the other schools you mentioned. They use what you said as an excuse but....

Regular is another story though.

i don't think i submitted part 1 before december 1st and i still got contacted for an interview. you shouldn't worry about it.

Don't worry about it. I got contacted for an interview even though I didn't send in part 1 before Dec. 1. And even if you don't get contacted I don't think it will negatively affect your chances.

and I sent Part I in on time and have NOT gotten contacted for an interview (am following up) - so WHO KNOWS!? :)

they interview those who submitted before dec 1 first, and if they have extra interviewers, they'll interview other applicatns
