My child missed two interview invitations to Harvard. Did he blow his chances?
Thanks for all replies.

What precisely do you mean by “missed two interview invitations”? Did he simply, for example, overlook two email requests for interviews; or did he, more significantly, commit to two interviews and then not show up?

How did he miss 2 interviews–due to previously scheduled events, forgetfulness, or lack of communication?

If he is guilty of lack of good planning or lack of communication, this would count against him. (Could be seen as lacking the maturity needed for college, or poor organizational skills.) If he kept trying to reschedule due to previous commitments, but a date was never compatible to student and interviewer, then he would be probably be OK.

Yes he overlooked two email invitations.

Not good—.

He said it went to the spam mail box.

That is unfortunate, but really it was his job to follow up on the communication (check spam when waiting to hear from Ivies!)or lack- thereof.

Did your son apologize for the snafu and request a new appointment? Did he email admissions explaining the situation and graciously plead for a new interview opportunity? He may still have a chance.

Yes he did apologize, but the interviews Had passed. No he did not email admissions it says not to contact them.

I would encourage him to write a handwritten note to admissions and explain the mix-up. They can include it in his file and perhaps the effort will be taken into consideration.

OMG! Same! It’s funny because it was only the Harvard interview that went to the spam, the rest were fine. Luckily I check my spam…

He emailed the admissions office and explained the mix-up. We will wait and see what happens.

No reply yet. I just hope my son gets a second chance.

The interviewing period hasn’t passed. (I had mine yesterday.) Have him–not you!–contact the interviewer ASAP.

Yeah, the interview period definitely hasn’t passed. My interview is scheduled sometime in the future.

Yes he did contact the interviewer, he said that he would be contacted if needed at a later date.(I guess he is moved down the list or removed).
