Hi all,
Today, I thought I had my last exam of the semester. I showed up at 3:30, like I was supposed to; I realize that it is a communications exam. I then check my schedule and realize that the exam was the day before.
I had an A- in this class, and I have already emailed the professor; if I have to take a 0 on this exam, it will give me a D+. I take full responsibility for this, it was my own dumb mistake. Is there anything I should do or say? I was transferring to a different university-do I tell them about the situation?
I am still waiting on an e-mail back, so nothing is finalized, but I would appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar position.
Thank you so much for your time
Why are you not on the professor’s office doorstep? If it’s that important to you - and it sounds like it is - you need to be way more proactive about getting over there in person to explain. (And the importance of different modes of interacting was probably covered in the communication exam!)
In all seriousness, good luck! Hopefully, a sincere explanation will lead to flexibility on the prof’s part.
Trust me, I have been trying-I showed up to her office on my campus, her home school’s campus, called both sociology departments, and have been unable to get hold of her. I have been in contact with my TA, who has asked if I’m free this weekend-possible good sign? I also said I could be here any time that was convient
She is letting me take the exam tomorrow! She’s docking a full letter grade off of what I get, which is totally okay-I am so grateful to have such an understanding professor! Now, I’m off to bed-up at 7:00 to drive back to school!
Glad it worked out. I did the same thing once in college. I was also able to take the exam, after a night of misery till I could track down the professor and beg. I think it really helps to have an A going in, in situations like this. The embarrassing thing for me was I had the same professor for an honors seminar the next semester.
Glad it worked out and I bet the fact that you had the right attitude (it was entirely your fault, you’d be happy with anything that let you avoid a 0 at least) certainly helped. Good luck today.
The exam took me 20 minutes; I had two hours. It went well
Glad that it turned out well for you. It would be interesting to know how many people, especially parents, have had recurring nightmares of forgetting an exam or not being able to find the classroom where the exam is being given. I am 65 and still have those scary dreams.
@lotsofquests – My English professor said he still has nightmares about college exams and part of his job is writing them up, lol.
