Missed SAT today due to brother

I was supposed to be driven by my brother to the test center but missed today’s test because my brother didn’t have any fuel in his car, of which I didn’t know, so I can’t go to the sat center. It’s incredibly disappointing, and I’m hoping any of you have knowledge of a makeup date of some kind for these mistakes. Do you guys know of any other dates or centers open in December for me to take the SAT?

See https://sat.collegeboard.org/register/registration-changes, “Absent on Test Day.”

There are no make - up dates. Sign up for the January test.

Most colleges I’m applying to don’t accept the January SAT. I’m f***ing screwed.

See if you can waitlist for the December ACT?

I didn’t spend 2 weeks studying for the ACT like I did for the SAT.

I’m sorry this happened. But the SAT has no make-up option and you’ve already stated that the next scheduled SAT date is too late for your application deadlines. So ACT is your only option UNLESS you want to modify your college list to include some schools that are test optional. There are lots of resources here on CC re: test optional schools.

Moral of the story for others is don’t want until December to schedule your first standardized test if you are applying to schools that require it. You never know what might happen - you could wake up sick the day of the test. Best to give yourself more contingency.

Well, I did take the November test but got an awful score of 1680. The December test was a chance for me to get at least a 1900. I’m still in terrible shape with such a low score. The reason the upcoming ACT won’t help is because the time is way too short for me, I already took the October ACT and got a 24. I had to randomly fill in about 20 questions because I ran out of time.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I didn’t even know about standardized college tests until 6 months ago. Not a single teacher or counselor ever mentioned it to me, they screwed me over.

Tough situation, bro. It may sound like a horrible idea, but try and hit up that ACT anyway. Get some practice tests online and just work through them and analyze your errors afterward. If you take 3-4 practice tests this week, you can probably increase your speed.

Just saw that the December ACT deadline is also over. But it’s not over for you yet, bro. You can distinguish yourself by taking some other national exams. Do you have any special talents or interests in math/science?

Also, what colleges are you applying to that don’t accept the Jan. SAT? Perhaps contact them via email with a humble request and perhaps they’ll give you clearance. It won’t hurt to try.

I’m certainly very interested in science, what tests/exams are you talking about?

I just wanted to let you know that I was lucky enough to have gotten an ACT fee waiver a month ago and apply it to the December ACT. I should’ve mentioned that, but It’s still way to short a time limit for me to improve my grade much. At this point, it’s down to luck, which I don’t seem to have.

Nobody “screwed you over” by not mentioning standardized testing. Every college you have any interest has a website with their admissions requirements on it. It isn’t “luck” that you waited so long to test, and didn’t study before your first attempts. You do have the option of CC for a couple of years, then transferring if you don’t get into the colleges you are interested in now.

Nearly every college I’m applying to/plan on applying to:
UIUC
University of Minnesota
University of Washington
Purdue University
University of Colorado-Boulder
Rutgers University-New Brunswick
Ohio State University-Columbus
University of Wisconsin-Madison

@intparent Like I said, I didn’t even know of what I could do or apply to. I didn’t have any dream colleges for years or know of these tests. My school should’ve talked about these things, I simply never received these important notices.

@intparent Don’t be so tough on him. He prepared for this SAT and a stupid little mistake ruined it. I presume @Hizeus doesn’t go to a big school and standardized testing probably isn’t a huge deal like at most schools. He doesn’t have lofty dreams; he just wants to go to a decent uni. No one should have to spend 2 years at CC because of a mistake like this.

The tests I’m referring to are the USABO, AMC, USNCO, and USPhO. What science classes have you taken and were they AP classes?

Can you afford out of state tuition at all of those colleges? Also, MN won’t even accept the December tests from what I can see on their website. Did not look at the rest.

@intparent I was just wondering the same thing. If you or your parents can’t afford gas for the car to get to the testing center or pay for a taxi, or pay a neighbor for a ride… how in the world are you going to pay for college?

Beyond just tuition issues (which can be pretty bad for some of these) it seems like an odd list, a resident of one of these states should probably use one of the second-tier schools as a backup (all are flagships and not trivial to get into). What are your grades like, are all of these good matches even if you bring up your SAT or ACT scores ? Financial aid make a private school possible ?

You need to apply very soon, you need to some research and find some schools where you will be say at the 50% mark of admitted students …

@3scoutsmom It was my brothers car, not my parents. My parents are in another state right now.
