I didn't make the December 10th deadline to get an interview, but I'm still applying.

Does having an interview vs. not having an interview affect chances? Are there any stats out there comparing admissions results for those that have had interviews versus those who opted not to/submitted too late?

I wouldn’t worry about the interview; plenty of people get in without it. Personally, mine didn’t go so well but I still got in so I doubt they place much emphasis on it at all.

They only emphasize the early submission deadline b/c they can’t predict how many will actually apply and accept the interview. I’m sure they have plenty of alumni near your area (if you live in NC that is).

oh and MW is kindda right. I got the impression that the interview was just to keep the interest of the student alive in the school. Although it asks about the applicant and how he/she thinks…it’s still kindda like a college fair type of deal where you ask them questions. You can always reroute the topic on yourself if you want to. It’s a good evaluative discussion about your unique personality in person. But I don’t know if it impacts that much (as you can see in MW’s event).

From what I’ve heard about college interviews from different sources, they are only significant if the student gives off an exceptionally bad impression (ie makes racist remarks, demonstrates mental instability… something extreme like that). Otherwise, they serve to stimulate the applicant’s interest in the school and to help “put a face” on the applicant. But it won’t be to your disadvantage if you don’t get one, as they are optional.
