Well, I found out today that the deadline to schedule an alum interview was a few days ago. After a frantic call to Admissions (disappointing response), I shot the Dean of Admissions and email. He was very kind to respond shortly after, but he said... "It is likely that we will run out of available spots, and for that reason we have decided not to take any additional requests. Please note that the interview is not required or expected if you are not from the Southern California area and the lack of interview will not preclude you from being admitted to the class."
If I'm reading this right, it doesn't seem to be a big deal that I don't do an interview. However, I know all of the Claremonts to be big on "fit," stressing the interview process as a way to learn if the student should or shouldn't be there. So, I'll hand it off to CC members, is it really that big of a deal? Honestly, because Pomona is my top pick school, I'm considering driving out for an on campus if that can still be arranged (I'm near Chicago). Would it be a waste of time?

yea don’t worry about it. Don’t drive all the way from Chicago to claremont for an interview. Most kids who get in didn’t have an interview, and I even know some people from LA/ southern california who didn’t interview and got in.

I’ve heard Bruce Poch reiterate that very same statement many times - don’t worry about not having an interview. And good luck with your app!

My son missed the deadline for an alumni interview in our hometown, and we weren’t going to fly him out to LA, so he just crossed his fingers. He got in without an interview, or a campus visit either, for that matter. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Of all the schools my son applied to, Pomona’s vetting process seemed among the most caring and humane. Good luck to you!

My daughter was accepted a coupe of years ago with no interview or contact ever with the admissions office. If you are not accepted, it won’t be because of this.

Ditto above. My d continues to be happy, happy, happy - working incredibly hard, too many choices for second semester classes. I am so happy for her. Good luck!

If the interview goes well it will only enhance your application, but it isn’t a crucial factor of the application.

I am actually from Southern California and I barely missed the deadline for the interviews. Will that hinder my app?
