My parents most likely will not be able to make the March 1 deadline for IDOC. How serious is this? Will there be negative repercussions? What am I supposed to do?
Why? Why can’t they make this deadline?
They just don’t have enough time
Will they have enough time if you tell them that thousands of dollars are potentially at stake? Colleges that normally meet need don’t promise to do so if you don’t turn things in on time. This should be a priority.
they really should make the time, or at the very least they should contact the schools in scope and request an extension. if you meet the deadline, you will be eligible for all need the school determines to give you. if you don’t meet the date, then you could lose any or all of that aid.
of course, if you have a large EFC, it doesn’t really matter that much. the more aid you are eligible for, the more seriously you should take the deadline.
The school I sent my IDOC into late said that deadline was on the College Board itself set and they have no issue taking a late IDOC. Check with the school itself.
Is it the case that your parents have all of the info they need for purposes of the IDOC but just do not have the time or will they not have the necessary info in time to submit it? There are some people who do not have sufficient tax info to file taxes by the IDOC deadline. More often than not though I suspect those people are not likely to get any need based aid.
I imagine it depends on the school. I called Cornell, who had a Feb 15 deadline, and they said it would not affect the amount of aid we get. It may affect their ability to provide FA info with the acceptance decision. This may only be true at an Ivie with deep pockets. I’d certainly call the schools in question.
