I recently got the following email from the Princeton Financial Aid office:
Dear Y2JRedskins:
You indicated you intend to apply for financial aid but have not yet submitted the Princeton Financial Aid Application (PFAA). This form is available on the Web at https://finaidapp.princeton.edu/FinAid/loginFreshman.jsp, and the required tax documents can be uploaded after submission. Although the deadline was February 1st, applications are still being accepted without penalty.
Before you begin, you may find it helpful to read Tips for using the Princeton Financial Aid Application which provides a guide for gathering the data you will need …
If you do not intend to apply for financial aid, please email our office at pfaa@princeton.edu so we may update our records. If you recently informed our office you are no longer applying for aid, please disregard this email.
Sincerely,
Undergraduate Financial Aid
I know that Princeton is need blind and that the Financial Aid and admissions offices are separate, but I’d like to know whether the email could potentially indicate something positive. I know it’s far fetched, but there is always a shot! A lot of decisions have probably been made already after all.
My son graduated from Princeton in May so I have been on the forum for a number of years now. Several years ago (as in the thread from 2013 you referenced) it appeared there was some correlation between receiving the e-mail and the likelihood of acceptance but that has not been the case the last year or two. My thought would be that admissions discovered this perceived connection and has modified its procedures.
The FA office is completely separate from the Admissions office. There is absolutely no meaning to this email other than the fact that you didn’t turn in your financial aid documents.
At the risk of beating a dead horse, no, I don’t think receiving the FA email is indicative of admission. Like @college61728, I applied for financial aid, never received any emails, and still got in early. I also know someone who applied to Princeton RD, got a FA email, and didn’t get in.
I have spent countless hours last year obsessing over the same issue. My son got an emai in February reminding him to apply for financial aid and then another email in mid-March asking to submit parents’ tax forms. He was admitted to the class of 2020. Good luck!
i saw the 2008 thread, 2013 thread and 2014 thread, all the students who got this email were accepted+waitlist. i dont know if this correlation will maintain this year.
I am hopeful that it works @Y2JRedskins and @mingmingmiko as I received that email as well. However, someone posted for Ea in December receiving this email and I pm’ed them and they said they were rejected :(. Most likely the correlation does not exist and it just normal procedure for all applicants
