See full article and photo below. His family must be frantic. Can you imagine??

Hi andi-
I don't know much more. My s. has gotten a few "has anyone seen him?" emails from the Masters at the college (the residential college) over the past few days, but this evening a full blown "missing" emergency alert went out via email, text messages and the website. Exams are over now and most kids have been heading home since this past weekend. My s got home Mon. night and emailed in his last paper/project today. A lot of the kids were heading home over the weekend. This kid lived off campus-- not sure where. But he hasn't been seen since Saturday. It is so awful-- not knowing...

It is terrifying, and my heart and thoughts go out to the young man's family. Our town has experienced this twice: once a wonderful young woman that grew up in Bloomington and attended IU, and once a fantastic young man from Bloomington that attended Purdue. When they are so close in age to one's own children, and from the same hometown, it's not hard to sympathize with the family. I hope he is found safe. Fortunately this is not a thing that happens often.

Very scary. I can't imagine what the family is going through, especially at this time of year.

His car and backpack are also missing, though his cell phone is in his apartment. It sounds like he left on his own. Hopefully he's safe and, as Andi said, just foolishly decided to take off somewhere. Maybe he was trying to escape the stress of exams and decided to drive off somewhere. In any event, I hope he'll turn up safe somewhere soon. Someone may recognize his car, too.

Seriously, the fact that he left his cellphone is NOT a good sign. I'm concerned. My daughter hasn't said anything about this and I don't know if she knew the boy.

Nothing new has been reported in our local rag. I'll check the news stations. Please understand that the quality of journalism in Houston is a joke.

I haven't heard anything new on the news, but I just noticed that there's a large Emergency Notification banner on the Rice website, so apparently there is still no word.

As the parent of a Rice student, this scares the bejeezus out of me. I know it can happen anywhere but this really hits home. I feel so bad for the parents of this boy. I hope that the Houston authorities will take this seriously and search for him and his car, and not just assume that he took off on his own.

I'm praying for his family - what a horrible thing to happen at Christmastime.

University police said junior Matthew J. Wilson, 20, was last seen at his off-campus apartment at about noon Saturday.

"We found out from a student who Matthew was supposed to have picked up on Saturday evening and take to the airport that he never showed up" police Chief Bill Taylor said. "So we now have information that he had some things planned later from what we originally knew."

My thoughts are with his parents, families and friends. I hope he will be found safe and sound, but the fact that he left without his cell phone does not bode well. :(

My thoughts and prayers are w/ this young man and his family. I am concerned about him leaving his cell phone behind and not contacting the friend he was taking to airport.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the people that are concerned for Matt and praying for him. If anyone has ANY information please contact Rice Campus Police at 713-348-6000.
