Missing school just because.....

Do any of your guys just ever decide not to go to school?

I had an uber busy week and didnt get home until like 9:30 or something every night....and I get to school at 6:40.....so really long days

so today i just decided i needed a break and really need to work on my Bowdoin app which is due tomorrow
i kinda feel like a slacker....but it feeels so nice to just have a slow start to the day and work leisurely

anyone else do this?

or am i like the only slacker on this dang site. haha

Not at all, and only on CC would people cut school to finish a college application and think it was slacking... ;)

Alex

I've had my parents call my in sick so that I could have more time to study for a test. Although I didn't use the time as I should have...

No.
10char.

AAAahaha yes! I do this all the time. But usually for somewhat valid reasons [i.e. when I'm tired, need to work my my scholarship app that's due tomorrow!!!!!!!, totally forgot about a test - hmmm maybe I should have skipped today since i epic failed my euro quiz, and should have worked on my app, and only got 5 hours of sleep.lol].

Only if my parents let me. :/

the day before the PSATs...so i could do some last minute prep..and i was also sick..so it was better off staying home either way

No, because then I'd miss that entire day's worth of classes and I'd have to catch up anyway.

pretty much every other day.

Only once. I skipped to study for US history AP exam. It took me thirty minutes to convince my parents that I am better off staying at home and study than actually going to school. Then the studying didn't go as well as I have wanted because I spent more time eating than studying.
I have never skipped school for a school class test, though.

Oh, you'd be real surprised...

Anyways, I skip school whenever I feel like it.

I've definitely missed school before to do other things like study for AP exams, work on papers, and sleep.

More often, though, I sign out early. Every other day, I have yearbook last hour and am just burnt out. Thus, my mom gets a text and I go home. It sucks, though, because my school just instated a strict new attendance policy. We get to miss a certain amount of days per semester and sign out hours count. So...not so much anymore.

How do people get away with this? Do your parents call the school? Do you just not show up? I could never get away with just skipping. And my parents would never call. Even when my brother and I are sick, my parents always say to go to school first, and then we can come home if we don't feel any better. And the school is really nitpicky about people just skipping. They call the house, then the parents, and then they send somebody to the house. This would never work for me.

If I stay home, my parents called. It takes a lot for them to let me stay home for real, but signing out is less difficult. I feel like I do it a lot, but honestly, I'm not so bad. I know kids who sign out almost everyday.

Wow, never.

Our school demands a doctors note and a parent's confirmation via both phone call and note delivered on the day returned. My parents would laugh at the notion of me skipping school for any reason besides illness. If I need to skip a day to study for an exam, then clearly I haven't been using my time wisely, and I should accept the consequences and fail. That's my fault, and I should've known better.

at my school your parents just have to call in.
if you bring a doctors note your absence isn't counted against your attendance
but excuses from your parents for any other reason is just an excused absence....and you can have like 9 or something
haha
then it says you can petition loss of credit after 9 absences. so pretty much if you have straight A its okay to have a few more

yeah, last year i did this all the time... like 20+ missed days. i haven't done it as much this year because i don't want to miss AP Chem or AP Calc. one missed class can really screw you over.

but some days i go to bed a little late, wake up feeling like crap, and just say "screw this" and sleep in. my mom will just write me a quick note to take to school. i have 3 other siblings, so my parents don't really fret over me.

example, a couple weeks ago:

my mom comes in to wake up my little brother and she sees me still lying in bed
her: "it's 8:00, you're not going to school today?"
me: "nahh, i'm not feeling too good."
her: "fine. do the dishes and mop the floor. and work on your applications!"
me: "okay, bye" (continues sleeping)

before school the next day, she scribbled the the usual

"Dear __ High Guidance: Please excuse my son ___'s absence from school due to illness. Thanks." on a piece of paper and i gave it to the front office. they don't really follow anything up/ask questions.

ALWAYS!!
I have missed almost 20 days this school year so far! And i was only sick maybe once.
Our school gives us 0s on all work on the day we missed if we don't have a parental excuse.
I never end up working on school stuff when i miss though. i read or write other things.

i've missed school 2 days this year. both were to catch up with studying, school work, and rest. it's not something i make a habit of, but i'd rather skip school entirely than go to school and get bad grades. in the words of jonny tsunami, "go big or go home"

"in the words of jonny tsunami, "go big or go home""

But by staying home to improve your grades aren't you doing both.
