missing Swat student...

Very upsetting--

Dear Friends,

I regret to inform you of some worrisome news. Swarthmore Borough Police have issued a missing persons alert and are seeking assistance in locating a student. Matthew Baldwin '10, age 21, was last seen on Sunday evening, March 1. Friends and family have not heard from him or been able to locate him since that time. Matthew is a white male with shoulder length brown hair, mustache, and a fair complexion who wears glasses. We believe that he might be wearing a dark green parka and black leather boots.

The Deans Office staff, Public Safety and I are working closely with Matthew's family and with the Borough police to locate Matthew. If you have any information regarding his whereabouts, we ask that you please contact Public Safety at x8333. In the meantime, I know you join me in hoping he is found safe and sound.

Sincerely,

Jim Larimore

that is so sad. i hope they find him!

This is such sad news; I really couldn't believe it when I opened my email and read that message from Jim Larimore. I didn't know the student personally, but I often saw him in Sharples with his girlfriend, they always looked very happy.

There's a facebook group devoted to spreading the word about Matthew, and everyone should join it in case someone might spot him somewhere. Who knows, it might be somewhat far-fetched, but one click to join the group might really make a big difference.

according to a relative who posted on the facebook group for Matthew, he was found alive and well in the woods. yay!

Here's a news story. He was found camping near Reading, PA.
UPDATE: Missing College Student Found Alive

I am delighted to hear this good news, but what don't young adults understand about letting someone know before you decide to "fall off the face of the earth" for a week?

please don't make it a "young adults" thing.
i've talked to plenty of swat students whose initial reaction to the news (and it was mine, as well) was to say just what you did--why on earth would he not tell a single soul? it's incredibly irresponsible.
i'm sure that there are plenty of adults who do the same (very stupid) thing.

There is obviously a "rest of the story" here that will sort itself out among the various parties. I doubt very much that this was just a camping trip, oblivious to the heart-wrenching concern being triggered in family and friends.

He was apparently tracked down from people who recoginized him at a gas station/convenience store from his missing person photos on the local news. The police reviewed the surveillance tapes from the store and confirmed.

swattransfer,
I apologize. I mis-spoke in using the term "young adults." This should apply to anyone with common sense.
