Missing Tax Return...Help

Hey guys -

So I checked my tracking online and they are still missing my dad's tax returns for financial aid. I'm going to call tomorrow to see if I can get this all sorted out but I've read some stuff on here that they don't even consider ur app if you dont have all the financial aid stuff in. Is that true? Does that mean that I can automatically assume I'm going to be deffered on Friday? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

"that they don't even consider ur app if you dont have all the financial aid stuff in."

I'm sorry to inform you that that is true. When I told my interviewer that I was also applying for aid, he specifically cautioned me to get the aid in there on time. He told me that for ED, if your financial packages are not complete they are not even going to open your application. When I asked him why, he said "what would be the point of accepting someone ED then realizing that they can't come because you haven't given them any sorts of fin-aid measurements.

But yeah...I still wish you good luck though.

Just get your hands on your father's taw returns and FAX them ASAP. They have a fax machine they scans everything into the system. Do not worry. Just call them AND your father.

I'm praying for you...

That's not true. I just called today and asked about my CSS Profile (which I submitted but which, according to the tracker, haven't been received). they have obviously been sent, but the lady who i spoke with said that they haven't completed downloading all the fin. aid stuff. She said the financial aid office has nothing to do with the actual decision. they are 2 seperate things. you get your financial aid package in April even if you apply ED (i think).

well maybe tax return forms HAVE to be in. i'm not sure about that but for the CSS profile. can someone PLEASE clarify?:

The date you submitted your PROFILE Application to the College Board: 11-21-2004

Date Sent or
Scheduled to be Sent
11-29-2004

so it HAS to be with them.

also

"If a financial aid office has told you that they have not received your PROFILE Report and this status indicates that it has been sent, you can be certain that your information is at the school. Because colleges receive many PROFILE Reports each day, your report is most likely in process. "

Correct me if I'm wrong above (but i'm pretty sure the columbia admissions people know more than your interviewer)

also she said to check if the CSS Profile is in by Wednesday.. So I guess they aren't done with the apps yet.

"I just called today and asked about my CSS Profile"

Uhh...The CSS profile is completely different, I was talking about Part III (and all the forms pertaining to part III)

you're still right in some sense...but the question now is: Will they consider his application for ED if he doesn't have his financial stuff sent in?

Kalamazoo, just call them up and check, saves you a lot of time.

"(but i'm pretty sure the columbia admissions people know more than your interviewer)"

haha i doubt it because my interview also worked in adcom...but who knows?

So Delfire, it's not really a problem then that they haven't processed my CSS Profile yet (the woman seemed pretty calm lol)? just confirming

Yeah for some reason Columbia does not get all its mail. i had to submit my tax returns TWICE! the first time, it did not get in. i had to resubmit. very very annoying. just resubmit ASAP!

And is part III just the financial stuff we had to fill online on columbia's site? I've done all that. so is it ok w/me?

i hope i'm right lol.. delfire scared me a bit

CSS profile is part of financial aid too. But if the lady said ur fine, then im sure you are. And im going to call tomorrow, the admissions office just isnt open now so I figured that CC was my best alternative for the moment.

I don't think it's really that stringent. As long as they have some idea of your financial situation and you have submitted some type of documentations, thing should be ok. The only people who need to worry is the ones who are applying for financial aid but haven't sent in a thing. After all, the package given to you during ED is strictly tentative and they still need your 2004 tax forms after you get in to finalize your financial aid.
