Eeeep. Found out my brother has time off work in August, which coincides with my first week of school. But my mom and I are going to visit him. And... he lives in Tokyo! Long ways a way... so actually I'll be missing the first... 7 days of school. I fear the make up work; I have APUSH, AP Chem, and AP Lang among other lesser classes. This should be fun ^^; :P Any thoughts on how bad it will be?

I think that’s an excused absense, don’t worry about it.

um… not too horrible the first week! but maybe (if you can), contact the teachers and explain the situation to them. maybe they’ll give you a couple of the assignments before hand.

that’s so cool that your brother is in Tokyo. Does he work there? What does he do?
(haha sorry for being odd xD). you can pm me the answers if you don’t wanna say.

^^^ I agree with rayna, although it is the first week of school the majority of AP classes are already starting the work. (I had APUSH and we were already on chapter 6 by the first week- no joke). AP English, you should be fine it is a very easy class! AP Chem all depends on the teacher because there are no set “chapters” just knowing the infor (took in sophomore year). So just ask your teacher, it should not be that bad. It would be worse if it were the last week of school or something.

I think it’d suck to miss the 1st week of school. That’s when the teacher introduces the entire class, how a normal day is, how harsh they grade… etc. And it looks bad, even if it’s excused

I think it sucks to miss the 1st week too. It’s pretty much like missing one normal day of school; you have to make up a lot of work. And this is one week! You will very likely have a lot of work from APUSH. Mine did like 4 chapters in 1 week. AP Eng is probably nothing. AP Chem probably has some review work or new materials. You should def. ask your teachers for the work if you’re going. Oh and in my school this would be unexcused; this would be considered a family vacation, not illness or family obligations (funerals)

oh, it’s excused for me, thankfully. I can still exempt exams, and it won’t show that I’ve actually had any absences. If it did, I wouldn’t be going, haha.

I’m definitely going to email my teachers. Thankfully I won’t miss open house so I can get my schedule and all. I think the first week of school is probably the best week to miss though, since we most likely won’t have any tests until at least the second or third week.

rayna - haha, I don’t think you’re odd, no worries he’s 28; he taught himself Japanese while he was still in the U.S., and right now he’s teaching English in a town just outside of Tokyo. He has a masters of industrial engineering though, so he hopes to eventually get a job related to that. I’m so excited to go see him! ^^

it shouldn’t be bad…at my school we don’t get into a lot in the first week anyway
