Does anyone know if there is ANY way to register or take the LSAT AFTER the late deadline (it was January 24 for the February 2005 LSAT). One of my students amazingly forgot to register for the February exam until today, and now he might be stuck waiting another year to apply to and attend law school.

Is there ANY solution at all to this tragedy? Is there a way for him to take the test as a standby, as you can do for the SAT?? I don't suppose schools would provisionally accept applicants and then take the June scores, do they?

Help, sure. It's just not what you want to hear.

The normal deadline is 12 January, and the late one was last week (as you noted). First of all, no kid should take the LSAT in February for admission this year. He's just not going to get in as many places. It's all rolling admissions, and his applications should have been in months ago. There is really no way to register after the LSAT late deadline.

Second, not to be entirely judgmental (so take this with a grain of salt), if he can't remember to register for the LSAT and procrastinated this much (most schools accept applications starting in September or October), he's not ready for law school. Unless this is a rare event, coupled with a lot of rough spots in his life, he's just plain not ready to go in a few months.

Finally, there is nothing wrong with waiting a year to go to law school. In fact, at the best schools, most everyone has taken time off between undergrad and law school. He should take the LSATs in June, get a score, and, from there, figure out where he should apply (reach, match, and safety), and go in 2006.
