GPA: UW 2.86 (2.something for freshman and sophomore year, 4.0 throughout junior year since I shaped up. Originally I thought it'd be higher..)

SAT: 2170 (CR: 710, Math: 730, Writing: 730)
one sitting, doubt a retake would be much higher

AP:
Junior-
US History (4)
Language and Composition (5)

Senior-
American Government
Literature
Calculus AB
Physics B

ECs:
In school-
-Key Club
-Guitar Club
(shortest. list. ever.)

Outside school-
-Volunteered 40 hours at hospital over a course of 6 months
-Design/build water guns with a group of friends (thinking I might write my essay on this, and how I've decided I want to be an engineer because of it)
-...summer job at KFC

Class rank? Are you really only taking 4 classes senior year? Lucky.

Class rank is just barely Top 50%. Would probably be a lot higher if my school bothered to weight GPAs. As for senior year, those are the only AP classes I'm taking, not the only classes I'm taking period.

A 2.something to a 4.0 is an upward trend and QUITE impressive. It shows that you work hard and all, but since your average is so low it would bring down the accepted average, thus bringing down their rank.

Your SAT's are amazing for UW.

Are you first generation? Did your parents go to college at all?

Short list of EC's isnt bad (especially for UW, they don't care mucha bout EC's except volunteering MAYBE).

APs are good, especially since you got a 4.0 when you took them.

My advice would be for you and your counselor to explain yourself for why you did so poorly fresh and soph year. Tell them how you shaped up your act and that the two APs + other things you aced prove that you are more than capable (not to mention the amazing SATs).

You should definently apply, early if you could. Explain everything, write a stellar essay, and hope for the best. You are definently not a shoo-in with your Soph performance (your fresh grades dont really matter but soph does), but I do think it is not impossible. Good luck!

Thanks so far. I'm a first generation Iranian-American, dad has some college but no degree, mom just has a high school degree. That said, my family still makes a lot of money, so I can't say I'm disadvantaged.
