Missouri forces campuses to allow concealed-carry

Guns work well at protecting your home or shop from theft. Past that, though…

^ then why do the police carry guns (even off duty)?

What is everybody’s thoughts on encouraging bloods and crips to attend college.

they are professionals? and it’s not like the police never accidentally kill innocent people, they do.

I’m a single girl living in NYC by myself. I’d consider buying a gun for protection—except, I’m slightly uncoordinated and would probably miss the target even if he were at point blank range…or, more likely, I’d throw the gun at him and run.

I was hoping to just buy pepper spray or a tazer since, if I killed someone, I don’t think i would be able to live with that, but apparently they’re not legal in NY (or so I’ve been told).

You should be able to find pepper spray and tasers. You can just buy them online for one thing. I live in California and have walked right into a weapons shop and have bought both pepper spray and a taser legally. I suggest having them, or at least a folding knife.

Pepper spray is legal in NYC, but with some pretty severe restrictions. You have to be over 18, have no felony or assault convictions, and you have to buy it from an authorized retailer. You can’t buy online or bring it in from out of state. NYC is truly draconian in its self-defense laws.

Oh, and tasers are straight illegal in the entire state of New York.

Ah, I see.
I was looking on eBay to buy some cheap and all of the sellers refused to ship to NY. I’ll try to look for some pepper spray then, if I can find a store that sells it.

So guns are good for other things - you just want to restrict who gets to use them for those things

Statistics continue to show that armed ctizens not only deter and prevent crime, but also rarely cause crime. The people that end up going on some kind of killing spree are usually not stable in some form. If thier intent is to hurt someone, I’m sure whether or not they can legally purchase a weapon will be the least of thier obstacles.

Just because a very select few use weapons in a destructive manner does not give reason to disarm those who are responsibly protecting and defending themselves.

^ well said - agree completely

Guns are especially good for turning off the lights or tv.

^ exactly - why should cops be the only ones who get to use guns for things like that :D

I’d encourage people to visit [Students for Concealed Carry on Campus - ConcealedCampus.org](http://www.concealedcampus.com) for the pro-CCW side and [www.studentsforgunfreeschools.org -](http://www.studentsforgunfreeschools.org/) for the con side.

Really, CCW on campus is not designed to prevent or stop an active shooter. It is intended to allow people to have the chance to defend themselves against any situation where lethal force is acceptible. If that is an attempted mugging, rape, or murder, so be it.

Licensed concealed carriers have an exceptionally good record. Various studies have shown them to be more law abiding than even some major police departments and also less likely to kill an innocent person (there is a rather long set of reasons, but I won’t go there unless someone wants to address why these facts exist).

Why should these licensed people be restricted? They have already shown themselves to be law-abiding, and have taken the effort to carry legally. They don’t suddenly change when they cross the campus property line. Let’s face it, non-secured “gun-free zones” don’t stop crime. The sign and potential for administrative punishment from the school will not stop someone intent on committing violent crime. (If schools had airport style security, “gun-free zone” rules MIGHT work, but that is not a practical solution for most places.) Let people licensed to carry decide for themselves, instead of placing ineffective restrictions on their ability to defend themselves.

The numbers floated around SCCC’s discussion page estimate around 0.25% of college students would actively carry, so 1 in 400 (if their estimates are accurate).

“The proportion of Americans killed by firearms per year is more than seven and a half times greater than the comparable proportion of residents in the 10 developed countries with the next highest rates of firearm homicides.”

George Carlin: Think of how stupid the average person is. Then, realize that half of society is dumber than he is.

I’m not a fan of distributing firearms to rednecks and NASCAR fans. I certainly wouldn’t trust you with one. You might as well carry a samurai sword on your back in case a bar fight breaks out.

And my friends have been mugged before by a group of guys, but I think drawing a gun could have possibly made matters much worse.

Personally, I’m not going to walk through life like a paranoid schinophrenic, gun drawn at anything russling in the bushes. Bad things happen in life, you can’t prevent or think you can control them all through sheer force.

That, or we should splinter into two nations. Our nation will forbid guns (and retain our military), and yours can have all the bazookas, fortresses, wire taps, and spy sattelites it wants. The news will certainly be a lot more interesing in your neck of the woods. Give a man and a hammer and he’ll think everythings a nail.

“The proportion of Americans killed by firearms per year is more than seven and a half times greater than the comparable proportion of residents in the 10 developed countries with the next highest rates of firearm homicides.”

You do realize that this statistic does absolutely nothing to further your point, right?

“I’m not a fan of distributing firearms to rednecks and NASCAR fans. I certainly wouldn’t trust you with one. You might as well carry a samurai sword on your back in case a bar fight breaks out.”

You are being so closeminded, it’s amazing! Did you ignore all the info previously posted that explicitly shows gun owners as some of the most responsible, law abiding citizens around?

Guess what, NASCAR fans and rednecks may be stupid, but that doesn’t mean they are going to kill everybody in sight. Just becuase you feel threatened by someone for no particular reason doesn’t justify taking away the their rights of legally protecting themselves.

Well, as long as we are using ignorant stereotypes, I guess we shouldn’t give guns to black people either.

That is actually surprising, given how you take everything to its extreme when you post.

^ Dude? You completely stole my spotlight…

Double team bro. He won’t be able to break through that D.
