So...I competed in a statewide competition and i was in the top 10% of competitors, but I accidentally wrote top 5% on the application under list of honors. I think I did make it into the top 5% of competitors but the organization that runs the competition only recognizes Top 10% in the state, and I'm afraid that it might be deemed lying if found? Should I email/call/write to the college to notify them of my error immediately?

Can someone suggest what I should do?
I feel like that I could just leave it, but then something bad might happen if I do. =[

I would contact the organization that runs the competition to ask if they can validate that you were in the top 5%. At the same time, I would contact your school(s) and advise them that while you believed you were in the top 5% when you submitted your application, your certificate or notification only states that you are in the top 10% and that you are currently seeking confirmation of your actual ranking and will update your application once you have confirmed the information.
